We have been dreaming of a modern re-release of the classic Resident Evil games for years, and now Good Old Games has made that dream a reality. So far, we only have access to the first in capcom’s survival horror trilogy and to be honest, it is lacking in a lot of ways. Let’s sit down for a bit and go over where it falls short and how mods like Classic Rebirth and the Seamless HD project can completely remove those shortcomings.

  1. So od i"m not video nerd and just vwant to RE live Resident Evil Luke I was 12 again this od a way?

As for "boxed" nie presentation I had It on the łatę 90's/ early 2000's top. Don't Ask nie why. I'm not able to pinpoint technical issue from 30 years ago. I'm not Jared after all😊

  2. After watching a video on the Alpha Protocol GOG release, it can take YEARS for GOG to even get the chance to release a game for sale. Could the port be better? Yes but the onus is on Capcom to release the best port.

This could be pure speculation but GOG prolly has to work on what Capcom gives them for the port . It could just be that they don't have the permission to make certain changes.

  3. I don't think it'll be hard to improve the FMVs in a future patch.
Also, I'm expecting a simple .RAR file to replace and upscale everything to perfection with no extra .DLL or .EXE needed.

  5. Really glad I have the option to legally purchase and support the developers with this release after playing through the trilogy + 1.5 for the first time last year on duckstation, using the true director's cut mod for RE1.

  6. I've had a physical copy of RE and Re2 on PC since around 2012; I've played through Re2 more than once but I've always been a bit gunshy about RE because the last time I installed it I somehow deleted my internet-incapable PC's sound drivers, so that was fun.

Am I annoyed I just spent $10 on a game I've had on my shelf for over a decade? Yes.
Am I still happy a digital distro makes it more available to other people? Also yes.

I've been saying for years if Capcom would sell me these ports I'd buy them, and until then I'll use the copies I picked up in Tortuga; they have gone and released them now so it'd be hypocritical of me not to put my money where my mouth is.

  7. I ran it through gog galaxy due to sheer laziness. The original is still my favourite, and yes, it IS better than 2, thank you for asking!

I got the frame skipping thing too, my speedrun's are dope. The button config doesn't let you use triggers for aim, only bumpers. Not sure if that's my 8bitdo wireless i do switch and pc controller whose full name I can't remember but I don't see why.

If you're really just looking to play through it again without an emulator, it's fine. I've thoroughly enjoyed it as I never got to experience the win 95 version, the 10fps cutscenes are horrendous and thanks for confirming the original playstation version my 13 year old eyes experienced was better. Yeah the rebirth mod version etc is better but that's kinda the point isn't it? If you're willing to jump through the hopes you'll have a better experience. Boot up your ps1 and it'll look shit by comparison these days and that's the original so I don't expect much… I just wanna play re1 with ease.

Be nice if they update it though with some bells and whistles when they're done messing around with the inferior 2 and 3.

    and yes… 2 is better than 3.

    They're all good though.

  8. Do we really have choice to play RE Rebirth for years? Sure if one have obtained the japanise ver. to mod but was is possible outside of used disc market or "alternative" sources? Now we finally can buy a legit copy of the game and play it vanilla or mod. And that's great!

  9. Good to know the Classic REbirth still works with this. I can support the official releases with the benefits of the modding community. Best of both worlds

  10. The problem with the OG pc version, is that the frame rate is tied to CPU speed. The fact this is functional is a great feat in itself. Not sure why you are complaining about pillar boxing. They have to be as they are pre rendered backgrounds.

  11. I get it. I'm a tinkerer and experimenter by nature. I've been playing the Mediakite version with Classic Rebirth and Seamless HD for years now. But this collection (well, when 2 and 3 drop) is for the people who want to download > install > play. It just works, and that's okay.

  12. I'm not gonna lie i dont really care that theres sxaling issues or lower res textures I still play the og PS1 release all the time and I already have a modded all to hell PC copy but with this version I can take the Japanese version drop the dll in it and give it to my friends on a flash drive with no issues they'll probably get a better port down the road on consoles potentially in a way akin to the Metal Gear Master Collection
