  1. I don't remember which translation or which retelling it was, but I encountered an interesting one where it was implied she turned everything around her to stone when her eyes were open, no matter if she could see it or not; When she fled into the countryside, she turned a whole town into marble statues by simply walking too close.

IIRC, this version also stated that she was born a gorgon, but only turned people into stone after being cursed…

  2. I WAS JUST TALKING ABOUT THIS. I wrote a long paper in college about the demonesses in the Ramayana and other hindu art and how close it was to the original, Mycenean Greek art of the medusas. It bothers me a hell of a lot with the current depictions, even if I do like it.

  3. ima be honest
while you should keep the smaller more chibi-like characters for the stories themselves
your appearance in this specific video is too adorable not to make your default

  4. I saw on the video where Jake was talking about mistakes that he made that the most replayed was a part where he talked about the female orc problem and drew a hot orc woman and he did the same here too get the attention which is hilarious. Everyone here down bad for a female orc

  5. Thank you so much for doing a deep dive on Medusa, she's my favourite mythological character ever and there's just so much misinformation about her and people claiming the version of the story they are familiar with is the original or the right version.

  6. As a Classics undergrad, I usually can't stomach videos on ancient Greek mythology (the misinformation ruins the experience for me) 😭 but this video was fantastic! The animations are also super charming

  7. In Sardinia there are different legends about Medusa and in those cases she is just a beautiful queen who protects her relam after her father (Phorcus) death against Atlante, and then she was killed in a battle.
Medusa (or better Mèdousa) means protector in Greek

  8. i think maybe you should use BCE/CE (before common era/common era) instead of BC/AD (before christ/ after death) because BC/AD is based off of jesus christ's birth and death which removes 33 years off of the timeline of things that happened on earth which messes up the actual timeline quite a bit

  9. The first time I ever heard that version of Medusa you were referring to, where her power was a gift from Athena rather than a punishment, was in the remake of Clash of the Titans. Io was talking to Perseus and the soldiers from Argos as they were taking the boat to the underworld. I had heard of several people suggesting she was a tragic victim, but that movie was the first time I'd seen anyone put that spin on the story.
