The REAL reason The Dodo Went Extinct

The Dodo disappeared over about 100 years after being discovered by Europeans. The main reason they ended up extinct was because Dodo birds werenโ€™t equipped to defend against the animals brought to the island by the Europeans due to a little known trope of evolution!

  1. You have been lied to I have watched those nature Netflix shows and there are barely any but there are some still alive in different countries not in the United States tho! No one really knows where theyโ€™re still alive, also Alexa and Siri donโ€™t know if theyโ€™re still alive, I always know โ€œsome stuff on the internet is not realโ€ but hey this Netflix ok? Why would they lie to us

  2. Werent there birds of prey like kestrels on the island targeting the dodos ancestors making those ancestors need to get bigger ?

And baby dodos likely still were getting smoked by the kestrels right ?

  3. the story I heard was that it was mainly pigs that would eat their eggs, and their achilles heel was the fact that they had zero ability to fly, as you state 100% correct, in an environment where flying is not necessary growing bigger is a distinct evolutionary advantage, and if flying is not in that niche such an advantage it gets 'traded in'… I do believe that rats and monkeys were probably also a huge factor.
