I am always interested to see people come up with solutions to help protect the environment as I like to do my part, but this is one of the worst ideas I have read.

What's amazing to me is that a major airline (Ethiad) seems to be part of this. I get why companies create promotional material, but come on.
4:01 LMAO
so what are those 57% about. "May account for" still means in certain situations it could? Also that area they cover might be small, but for example researchers at MIT calculate the sum of contrail area over the US to be about the size of Massachusetts and Connecticut combined. That's quite a bit of additional clouds. They are also working on systems to reduce contrails.
So there's a bit of truth to this video.
I’m no mathematician but if the contrail issue is 57% of the contributing factor of aviation’s carbon footprint (or however they explained it) then I’d suggest since aviation appears to be 2.4% of the impact of global warming, the numbers indicate the contrail issue is maybe 57% of 2.4% or a whopping 1.37% of aviations contribution.
Also, those little vapour trails or contrails (is the word contrail a compound word for condensation trail?) would still exist above or below the cooler humid air masses wouldn’t they lol? You just can’t see them because they don’t condensate…
The genius in the video is suggesting that by not flying in the aforementioned zones that the aircraft magically doesn’t produce vapour trails?
Oh brother…
Thank you Kelsey for you hard work on these very informative and entertaining videos!
Ahhh… if you lived in UAE you'd know about this kind of blah blah…. bad thing is it's not allowed to criticize online so I won't…
looking up and seeing contrails is beautiful this nas guy makes no sense
Global warming is bs the earth goes through timed of being hotter and colder its normal global warming is just bs that elites like to talk about
This is “solar-freaking-roadways” 2.0
Pretty sure that was an Ad for the Eithad airline disguised as a "the more you know" type of video to convince morons their airline is conscientious.
And here I figured we introduced feature parity on both halves of the cockpit for redundancy and the safety that it brings…
Global warming. . . . . GLOBALLY!
Loved your ways. Hope NasDaily responds to this instead of arranging global conferences.
Mr Kelsey; In your entire video, you did not cite comparisons of the normal emissions of flying at cruise altitude vs the emissions of a contrail ( real ones, not the ones the government pumps vitamins and inoculations into … those are another video! ) I wonder if the pilot making the statement about his airline is even a real pilot, or if someone just borrowed the jacket and shirt. The FAA is of little help in being specific, as they ELUDE to the contention that contrails MAY, as you cite, versus DOES….. contribute to global atmospheric changes.
As far as this plotting around "contrail zones". I would wager that this airline already has to do some interesting flight plans for OTHER reasons, and this just happily coincides. I would also suspect that they can get some international funding to study this "science". project.
From the FAA…. nothing SPECIFIC to conclude anything to be fact nor fiction. Perfectly useless if you do not read your own conclusions from their statement:
This fact sheet describes the formation, occurrence, and effects of “condensation trails”
or “contrails.” It was developed by scientific and regulatory experts at the Environmental
Protection Agency (EPA), the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the National
Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric
Administration (NOAA) in response to public inquiries regarding aircraft contrails. Contrails are
line-shaped clouds sometimes produced by aircraft engine exhaust, typically at aircraft cruise
altitudes several miles above the Earth’s surface. The combination of water vapor in aircraft
engine exhaust and the low ambient temperatures that often exists at these high altitudes allows
the formation of contrails. Contrails are composed primarily of water (in the form of ice crystals)
and do not pose health risks to humans. They do affect the cloudiness of the Earth’s atmosphere,
however, and therefore might affect atmospheric temperature and climate. The
basic processes of contrail formation described in this fact sheet apply to both civil and
military aircraft
1 think that guy ho is talking about those trails is right! End you no that 2
It is a waste of time to try to disprove all the BS out there. There are just too many idiots about on the internet.
NasDaily are the worst propagandists and promoters of genocide
I think the discussed video is over the top, but in aviation engineering the contrails are considered in the environmental impact and it's called 'aviation induced cloudiness' (AIC)
The reason TT videos lack common sense is because the average TT poster (and viewer) have no common sense. 🙁 Besides, 'everybody' knows it can't be on the Internet if it isn't true. 😛 LOL!
I think the key is in what was said in the beginning, that a plane leaves behind "a combination of exhaust gasses and vapors". This is sort of a nonsense, because vapors are gasses too. It's a combination of mainly water vapor and carbon dioxide plus small quantities of other substances coming from fuel additives and engine oils.
The carbon dioxide is what contributess to the "carbon footprint", but has nothing to do with contrails.
Water vapor can in certain conditions start to crystalize and form a cloud. But contrails can appear independently from an engine activity – water vapor exists in the air and turbulences caused by wingtips or other parts of the airplane can trigger its crystalization. Gliders produce contrails sometimes.
So if they say, that "exhaust gasses and vapors" produce contrails, plus (as we know) the carbon dioxide contributes to the carbon footprint, they essentially count the CO₂ twice…
And how on Earth did they manage to lower their carbon footprint by increased fuel burn – that's beyond my comprehension. Contrails don't have a carbon footprint, they may influence the warming allegedly, but independently of carbon dioxide.
I would say that the entire Tik Tok video was done with artificial intelligence!😅
That stupid video actually looked very professional in its production. I think it's possible Etihad airlines made it themselves as a propaganda commercial for the wealthy ignorant to feel good about flying on an over priced airline.
Love ur sarcastic humor
This is dumb, the logic I mean. The jet is creating a cloud, and in the video they were showing a jet flying with no contrails, but clouds all over. Are those clouds somehow an issue to global warming? I agree with Kelsey, the exhaust from the fuel burn would be the focus in my eyes, but whatever.
If the heat cannot escape then the opposite must be true that the comtrails block the suns rays which reduces global warming. Well it would if it had not just burnt a million gallons of fuel because you want some warm beer on a sunny beach. PS.. A plane will fly over tomorrow and leave comtrails so the sun has been cancelled.
There is a name for "cold and humid" areas of the sky: a cloud.
Nas will lie just to get views. Not an ounce of integrity, all done in the name of clout.
The way the TikToker says "Contrails" is so bizarre. Seriously, he sometimes pronounces it as "con-trails", with a strange pause.
If the video has commonsense then i guess it wont be trending on tiktok 🙃
so this guy is doing a tik-tok etihad commercial?
Hi Kelsey, I think your overall comment here is on the money…namely the mere fact that to get from A to B or vise versa, 1000s of tonnage of aviation fuel is burnt in the atmosphere, in order to do this seems to be the point that is missing. AirNZ has appeared to have decided to go down this rabbit hole along with Etihad, as they found out recently from direct flights from NZ to New York. As you pointed out some realities, with regards to long haul flights and fuel consumption, AirNZ or more specifically its CEO, will also find out some economic 'realities' like having to pay passengers to take other flights, in order for the Company to tie- itself- up in knots to meet some unrealistic short term 'modelled' Environmental target. When the industry as a whole decides to stop being Ostriches, along with the infantile mentality ( ie if they cannot see contrails, the problem has gone away and been fixed), and realistically look at and apply scientific research to the actual issue of the aviation fuel itself, for a better alternative or solution, then just keep watching out for more of these annoying ,ridiculous Tik-Tok videos.😄
Where can I get one of those holographic iPads?
The emissions are there either way, the contrails just mean the air was humid and cold enough to condense… The tiktok looked like it was just a paid ad by etihad too though, good to know they're happy to fluff the truth
the guy in the advert sounds like he's talking to a child, which speaks volumes about the people behind it and what they think of the people they are aiming it at.
What a shame, Nasdaly used to be quite good…
Actually that is not just a video with content of that guy, there is a website of Ethiad publishing this stuff "Etihad Airways performs 42 EcoFlights including 22 contrail flights over five days". However they say they are testing it. There is a paper "Mitigating the Climate Forcing of Aircraft Contrails by Small-Scale Diversions and Technology Adoption
"
PLEASE keep these Tik tok roasts coming. These people are hilarious! 🤣🤣
First I want to say that I really enjoy your channel and feel I have learned a lot by watching. I'm no scientist, but you don't have to be one to figure out that neither are these guys. Assuming the guy in the pilot's uniform is a pilot, I don't want to be in a plane anywhere near where he is flying! Great video, keep them coming.
Anyone notice it was actually an add for Etihad cleverly disguised as a plea for reducing global warming?
Actually, if you want to make a big impact to pollution and our environment then stop buying foods outside of your state. Also stop buying foods that aren't in season or do not grow near you. Stop going to grocery stores and actually start talking to farmers in your area. You usually can get a better deal. Better quality and it wasn't killed 2 months ago. Flown over to Brazil process and brought over to the United States and then package and shipped all over to supermarkets.
In fact, our food is the biggest impact right now. We throw away about 40% of all the food that we process and put on store shelves simply because it goes bad. The average American throws away about 30% of the total groceries they buy. They just didn't have time to get to it. The land the water. The money that was spent to grow these products only to be thrown out is outrageous. All because someone wants watermelon in the winter time or they want avocados when they're in New York
Kelsey, get out of your cockpit and come back to the ground.
Look up from time to time.
See how those trails indeed cover the sky after while.
Spreading.
Causing a white out on days you do not expect there to be such conditions.
People often say: Yeah well, it is just contrails, the plane flies through a region of air that happens to have the right conditions to cause such a trail to form and stay there.
But if this is true, then howcome multiple planes on different altitudes (and you can see this clearly when those trails cross eachother), encounter the same conditions where trails can exist from one end of the sky to the other?
They say it is no problem to cause rain or chase away rain. They did so in China. And the media says they want to now create rain because of major drought.
Consequences are that if you create rain in a certain area, it will create drought in another.
So what if this is being done with planes?
A Geo Engineer once said it would not cost that much to have a small private company have "drone" planes fly and disperse stuff.
But, he said it in relation to battling Global Warming.
His idea was to use planes to spray certain things into the sky to reflect the sunlight to reduce the Global Warming business.
(it is on video, i got the video right here, You can check the name of the guy etc)
Think of me what you want.
But to deny it is crazy.
Even the Netherlands, a delta country where plenty of rivers flow through is experiencing drought.
Sure, it is because upstream there aint much rain.
But ehm, howcome?????
We have seen a crazy flood in Germany the other day.
Never happened as far as i know.
Global warming? Climate change?
Sure.
But what about them lines up there?
If they can cause drought and rain in China……. and this is old news because they already studied it in the 1920's……..
The only problem you have, Kelsey, is believing that Rich people are doing this for a reason.
You think nobody would ever do this for a reason.
But there are certain people who want to cause things.
Out of Chaos one can create order.
And what is chaos?
War.
And what will the next war be about?
Water.
And how to create such a problem of "no more water"?
Well, if the Chinese people can keep it dry with the Olympics……… Heck….. it aint that difficult, is it?
But nah, obviously you will say no rich people will ever do anything like that.
They are all philanthropists, helping out the poor to also become rich.
Because, a world full of rich people …. eh…… that doesn't work, does it?
Look the video is super cringey and not exactly the pinnacle of science reporting. But when you venture into "fact-checking" the statements that relate to the validity of the underlying study you make some pretty basic logical errors.
Some of your objections to the part where he claims that flying a few hundred meters higher or lower would typically avoid contrails are just bogus, sorry.
1. It doesn't matter that aviation uses feet and he said meters. Seriously, come on.
2. It doesn't matter that you can't fly at 39300ft because you only fly at multiples of 1000ft
3. Apropos of which, 1000ft is about 300 meters — "a few hundred meters."
The issue is that the heat from the exhaust is creating these water vapors and…since…it's so cold out in that environment…the heat is only going to last seconds before it starts to equalize and…turn into nothing. I don't know where he's getting hours let alone days from…
"These clouds trap heat"
Bruh…These planes are 30k feet in the air. We're talking easily -40F temps and that's on a particularly warm day. That exhaust heat is not going to trap ANY heat for more than 10-15 seconds. Ever threw a cup of hot water out on a -20 degree F day and it turned to snow before it even hit the ground? It's kinda like that.
"By flying around humid air"
Humid air…at 30k feet? It is so cold up there that any sort of potential humidity that could have existed is turned to ice crystal. What is even happening XD?
Though water vapor is a greenhouse gas the airplane does not add additional vapor to the atmosphere. The water vapor can hold the same amount of heat whether it is condensed in a cloud or dispersed.
C’mon Kelsey, this guy clearly stayed at a Holiday Inn and facts don’t matter.
