The Ready Room | Rebecca Romijn & Writer Akela Cooper Talk Prejudice And Una's Secret | Paramount+

This week, actress Rebecca Romijn (Lt. Cmdr. Una Chin-Riley) and Co-Executive Producer and Writer Akela Cooper join host Wil Wheaton (Star Trek: The Next Generation) in The Ready Room, where the trio discusses Episode 3, “Ghosts of Ilyria.” The group considers how the plight of the Ilyrian colonists and Una’s dilemma illustrate an important message about prejudice. Then, Romijn recalls a prank Anson Mount (Captain Pike) played on her at the end of filming Season 1. 1. I am so excited and a huge fan, there's such an enormous potential that Star Trek Strange New Worlds can bring to its fans. Done right SNW has the potential to outshine the original Star Trek legacy. I've always wanted to see the legend of Captain Pike and his adventures. The cast is phenomenal, Anson Mount is the perfect Captain Pike, Rebecca Romijn "is" Number One and Ethan Peck is certainly channeling Spock. 🖖

The producers and Paramount must remember that no matter what, these adventures will endure for generations.

  2. Love how writer Akela Cooper just happens to forget she stole Una's entire back story from DC Fontana and her novel Vulcan's Glory. To not give her a story credit is unprofessional at best. They should be ashamed.

  3. How weird. An Illriyan can serve Starfleet but as a Race, they can't join the Federation?
Are Terrans & Illriyans that similar? Taking Bio- engineering that far. The whole concept of Una having that as a secret is fetched. Super glad SNW's is around. Akela & Rebecca are fabulous. This is really GR8 having the writer & actress together. Kudos Wil! Best safe everyone 🦊

  4. Liked the episode, and outside of Lower Decks, it's probably closest to the ideals and tone of Gene Roddenberry's creation, but it would have been nice if the producers and the "writers" would have given story credit to Star Trek royalty and youngest female showrunner in the WGA, D.C. Fontana, who created this exact backstory, including Number One's name and race in the 1969 novel Vulcan's Glory.

  5. This was incredibly well written. I honestly was convinced Number One was somehow up to no good until her reveal. I was like "Ok she's helping but what's her angle? And what is the Doctor up to???" Just fantastic. Definitely in the top Trek eps. This year overall has been great for that. The Picard and Discovery finales both make it into my top 20 EASILY. Go Trek, get it get it! lol Not for nothing I need a Starlfeet issue durag and/or bonnet Paramount. Make it happen!
