The RAF’s Shadow Killers They Never Wanted the World to See

A British Hurricane pursues a stricken German Messerschmitt Bf 110 through the icy wilderness, its cannons blazing as the enemy plane, trailing black smoke, desperately twists and turns to evade destruction.

The Hurricane changes tactics. With a sudden burst of speed, it launches itself directly at the ME110, ramming the German aircraft into a violent collision. Shards of metal fly up in the air as both planes spiral out of control, crashing into the frozen earth below. This is no conventional approach for a British pilot.

The ME110 is obliterated on impact. The Hurricane fares no better, crumpled and broken amidst the snow. But a figure emerges from the wreckage.

Instead of a British airman, Soviet aviator Zakhar Sorokin checks himself for wounds and scans his surroundings. A vast Arctic void stretches in every direction. The bitter cold claws at his flight suit as the realization sets in: he’s miles away from his allies, stranded on a frozen tundra with the enemy lurking behind every turn. Surviving a plane crash suddenly doesn’t feel like a miracle anymore, and the real test lies ahead…

Join Dark Skies as we explore the world of aviation with cinematic short documentaries featuring the biggest and fastest airplanes ever built, top-secret military projects, and classified missions with hidden untold true stories. Including US, German, and Soviet warplanes, along with aircraft developments that took place during World War I, World War 2, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Cold War, the Gulf War, and special operations mission in between.

As images and footage of actual events are not always available, Dark Skies sometimes utilizes similar historical images and footage for dramatic effect and soundtracks for emotional impact. We do our best to keep it as visually accurate as possible.

  1. I know that WW2 images are limited but a disclaimer that not images are directly linked to this video might be appoipriate. Too many peope will learn that A merlin V12 looks very similar to a double row radial engine. Just saying.

  2. By using incorrect images (a naval seaman received the telegram while the voice over says fighter pilot) the channel compromises its own authenticity. It does this constantly. It p's me off so much that I'm giving it the thumbs down.

  3. As you usually do, you're mixing up airplanes. At 9:07 you show British Kittyhawks. And a B-17 being shot down? And a Sturmovik!

Yes, Merlins were inline squid cooled engines, not air cooled radials. There never was a version of a Hurricane with a radial.

  4. Merlin are V’s not Radial engines. You make great vid’s but there is plenty of film to show British troops vs US troops. Give the Brits their due, don’t sub US for them. To me a U.S. Marine, it dishonors a damn fine Fighting Force. Give them their proper Honor.

  5. Without Russia, where around 90% of equipment and manpower sent in by Germany never returned, WW2 would have been won by the Nazis. Stalin was reluctant to publicly acknowledge aid from the west, but when will the west acknowledge the huge cost (about 26,000,000 citizens) paid by Russia in the Alied victory?

  7. The biggest mistake us brits made was giving Rolls Royce engines and later selling the Russians the jet engine. They were lagging behind massively until then and were reliant on limited backward engineering.

  8. British empire NEVER stay in own yard, always get involved in anything where people are murdered, as they did now in ukrain. They are the slaves/"armed hand" of zionists financial powers from america and bruxelles.

  9. The Brits didn’t fly in snowstorms but they didn’t realize that if the Russians didn’t fly in snowstorms, they might never fly until Spring. I don’t know what you mean about support not being acknowledged until 1994. Right after Barbarossa was launched, Churchill made a speech stating they would help the USSR with Lend-Lease immediately and Roosevelt confirmed it. The USSR used US jeeps, trucks, tanks along with British tanks and aircraft from both countries. Stalin May not have formally said thank you but that wasnt his style EVER! And then the Cold War started almost immediately

  10. Can we drop this stupid agreement drawn up in the war that American troops were to be mentioned as basically winning the war on their own, without any other allies involvement! I keep expecting Tom Cruise to appear at any moment. Because of the slow breakout from the beachhead at Normandy as usual Patton was the hero while Montgomery was accused of being too slow. Look at the number of SS Panzer units facing each direction of allied attack! The same at the Bulge. Any mention of Montgomery having to take control of the American units in the north to save Patton were suppressed. North Africa, Sicily, Crossing the Rhine and others, all suppressed! Only the yanks/Patton gets the glory. Truth please the yanks surely are grown up by now and can be told that although they did so much in the war, THEY DID NOT DO IT ALL.

  11. " Dark Skies " keeps everyone in the Dark.
Does anyone proof read / watch these vids ?
Was there any New or even True information included in this video ?
Still, it makes money for the up-loader and that's all that counts these days …

  12. I had to report this video as misleadingand false. The mud island claiming they rescued the USSR a country spanning 11 time zones. You cannot wish away the truth about Victory day for Russia.

  13. A new low for selection of video, even for the 'Dark' channels. Was the secret shadow killer that Zakhar Sorokin was flying in fact a P-40, because that's what he crawls out of?
The RAF aircraft consignment did include P-40s, but neither they nor the Hurricane had a radial engine.
If you have so, so, so much video of P-40s, why not make the video about them too?
I wouldn't have been too proud about shooting down a B-17 (12:40 etc). Weren't they on our side?
Minor point, but in the sortie in Oct 41 that led Capt Zakhar Sorokin to lose his feet to frostbite he was flying a Mig-3, not a Hurricane. In fact the picture you repeatedly show is of Hero of SU Sorokin in front of what is plainly a Mig-3 (72 SAP VVS-SF). Savonov's unit did indeed operate both types.
I guess the channel operates on clicks regardless of content, but it's a sad reflection.
