  1. After playing this game since 1.0 i closed my service account without hesitation. The amount of problems this game has overwhelms the positives.
It's sad that people have to point out obvious flaws for years ad never get anything to seem to work when even modders are able to do it in days.
I wish the game success, but it will be without me for the time being, and if the game does improve I will make a new account, and skip DT entirely. If possible.

  2. tl;dr: FF16 can be described as "peaks and valleys". Moments of absolute hype and long stretches of time that are there just to pad out the game and add a few hours to the clock. The game would've honestly been much better if it was 10 hours shorter.

Personally I liked FF16 because I was in it for the story. I liked the idea that Yoshi pushed for an M rating because they wanted to have blood and violence and an overall darker tone to the usual FF formula, I liked his vision. I think the only other game that ever did that was the FF Type-0 for PSP?

Anyway, as far as I'm concerned FF16 is basically "Game of Thrones meets Attack on Titan" for all the best reasons you can imagine. Sounds weird as fuck but it's actually great. There are a lot of great ideas in that game.

The Active Time Lore system? That's fucking amazing, every video game should have that. Chef's kiss. You press a button during a cutscene and the game brings up a bunch of codex entries about the important lore stuff that the characters are talking about in that particular scene. You need a refresher on who a certain character is or what happened during a specific event that has been mentioned? Press the button and you have it. Amazing.

That whole other archive thing they made where you can see the entire cast of characters and the relationship between each and every one of them over the span of multiple years with lines, arrows, symbols and shit? Same as before. Fucking brilliant. Every game should have that.

The giant battles and set pieces against bosses? Everything about each one of them is absolute peak.

Music? Do I even need to say anything? Soken is not human

Ben Starr in the role of Clive? Fucking S tier voice acting, the only reason why he didn't win an award is because Baldur's Gate 3 came out the same year and had Neil Newbon as Astarion in it.

That all being said, the the best way to describe FF16 is "Peaks and valleys". There are moments that make you say "Holy shit this is the best videogame ever" and then long stretches of time that make you say "Holy shit this is the most mediocre videogame ever" and it goes higher and, consequently, lower each time until the end of the game.

The combat system is really cool, but you have no reason to actually fully engage with it because there's no real danger or difficulty (except maybe for the DLCs which have maybe 1 or 2 hard battles), there is no exploration, no mini-games, no crafting, no gearing system, no variety to side missions (although many of them have really good writing and voice acting), no real magic system with elements and enemy weaknesses and stuff like that, no super-secret bosses or super secret weapons or things like that. It's honestly a Final Fantasy game in name only.

  3. I think its time in the FF14 mmo timeline to break out the unique servers to keep it fresh, some kind of TLP server starting at 2.0, hardcore, maybe some kind of hardcore lite such as teleport disabled, no flying mounts, all dungeons set to min ilvl sort of thing

  4. I couldn't agree more with this. For me, Dawntrail Story was like clicking "Play" and watch the quest go by, with no input from myself. It was literally a waiting game, and a lot of cutscene skipping, which I will gladly admit I did in Dawntrail, and I bet I am not the only one.

  5. the moment he mentioned "culture of fear" within the company, it entirely makes sense. Yoshi p within the last year in one of their interviews mentioned that only RECENTLY did they step away more from their fear of upsetting players with new types of mechanics and encounters.

They've had that fear lingering from having to desperately save a sinking ship for days and weeks and months and years on end. Operating like that sticks to your psyche and grows familiar until you do it automatically. They don't have the same draconian measures, absolutely not, yoshi p mentioned that working like that was awful for everyone involved. But it has entirely still been there in the background with how they operate.

They still have a fear of disappointing the playerbase so they keep doing the same thing over and over and over again. Even though they've made adjustments in Dawntrail to some degree with mechanics, the entire game still follows the same exact formula. We savage and alliance in a pattern, always the same exact amount, dungeons every odd number and max level. 3 trials, base, and 6 areas every expansion. It's a quota with absolutely zero wiggle room for any creative decision making.

  6. I stopped playing because for completely different reasons. I just can’t commit time to a mmo. And it’s lonely not having anyone to play with . I came in at shadowbringers enjoyed the peak ride. Loved endwalker. bought dawntrail and wasted 40$ that’s where I just didn’t see any point in continuing I play too many games to keep up with a mmo . And even when I want to play it’s boring playing with nobody else.

  7. I honestly think the part of the playerbase that are scared to play the game have to be shaken off. Especially when you have so much duty support available. I have a friend who has had a long history since childhood of being deathly afraid of interaction with people (to the point of shaking when we used to queue for trials), due to a harsh upbringing. And even she has grown to be able to do content with other people comfortably because she applies herself to content and engages with it.

These people claim they are scared but they aren't. They're simply lazy and want the game to give them instant gratification

  10. End of the Day Square owns them so what they want to do and what they may be able to do are different i also personally only play ffxiv for story so i never had a problem i havent played dawn trails yet but i image its not as bad as people say i dont really care about the challenge as if i want that id go play elden ring or something like that myself id agree with many of his comments not all but some and i think they make game likes this because the generation of players now want instants pleasure they dont want to have to wait if they could people would pay money to skip dungeons.

  11. The worst thing act action game can be is boring in gameplay. Unfortunately square Enix hasn't had good action combat in the most recent main series titles.

Ffxvi combat is under cooked. The lack of good rpg elements and base combat design kills engagement.

Ffxv has far too many issues including changing it's combat mere months before release.

They over rely on the stagger mechanic introduced in ffxiii and haven't itterated or evolved it since. They need to go back to their bread and butter in turn based and at combat over the subpar action combat.

  12. It is kinda funny in hindsight that when the wow exodus was happening, everyone was saying "wow is the one that killed wow".. and now here we are.. watching ffxiv kill ffxiv :/

  13. Yoshi-P and his team saved the game, turned it around, and made it a success. It was a high budget wow clone though–that was basically their goal–of course with a few of their own touches like the main story line focus and the armory system from 1.0. The game's a live service so it's in need of a shake-up. They've got used to playing it safe. The start of a new story was the perfect time to do that, they missed the boat with the last expansion in that regard. They can still turn it around though.
