  1. I highly recommend Cary Elwes’ book about the making of The Princess Bride. It’s called “As You Wish” and he reads the audiobook himself. It’s wonderful! He tells stories about Andre the Giant, the training for the sword fight, and more. Some of the other comments mentioned that this is a fantasy/comedy/adventure/romance. The studio didn’t know how to promote it and it was not successful in theaters. What eventually made it popular was the invention of the VHS and movie rental stores.

  2. An aside: Brandon Sanderson and his wife Emily watched this movie during the pandemic and loved it, except for how little Buttercup did to save herself. Brandon wrote Tress of the Emerald Sea for his wife, inspired by the movie but with the young woman, Tress, going on an adventure to save her love. 💚

  3. Zuff saying, "This is real old" right off the bat. Someday, gentlemen, you'll too be in your 30s wondering where the time went. (And also arguing with "kids" in their twenties that you are, in fact, not old.) Lol. Love you guys.

  4. The princess was "not good" because she wasn't actually a person (which is why she never helped Westley beyond begging the prince). She was an object to use to start a war or a prize to be won for being a "good guy". You'd have to ask William Goldman about it.

  5. Arnold Schwarzenegger tells a story about how, when he was in his bodybuilding prime, Andre the Giant just manhandled him. He took Andre out to dinner. He picked up the check when it came, but Andre wanted to pay, Arnold insisted, said how Andre was the boss in the ring, but he was the boss there, Andre tells him that he's right, then proceeds to pick him up out of his chair, like he was a little kid, and sits him down on top of a tall wine cabinet. Arnold said it made him feel like a little doll put up on a shelf.

  6. Hey rob, you mentioned your favourite scene is the sword fight on the rock, there a YouTube video from Jill Bearup that does a fantastic breakdown of the technical elements and the choreography and it's def worth the watch!

  7. The movie is on my favorite’s list. Andre wasn’t good with english. I’m not sure but he might have had his lines recorded on tape then he just repeated them to get them memorized.

  8. All through the 80's we were told we couldn't go swimming for 30 minutes after eating or else we'd risk cramps and drowning. I'd like to think the the miracle pill was a jab at that.
