It’s not often that a piece comes out from the kiln that I can immediately identify as being one of those ‘special’ pieces. This is one of them, a seamed vase coated in a uniform layer of pale-green feldspathic crackle glaze. Its uniform save for a blush of oxidation on its back, resulting in a patch of darker glaze, it’s almost been singed, but in reality it’s the colour created just before the stark yellowing that can occur when some oxygen creeps in.
Secondly, as this always comes up when I post videos like this, here’s why I glaze the inside first.
This particular glaze dries into a soft and powdery layer. If I were to coat the inside first and then dip the pot like I do to coat the inside, the pressure needed to force the vessel underneath and then lift it out carefully, could very well be enough to damage the flaky glaze that covers the inside.
Instead, I coat the outside first, then the following day, after the vessel has dried out, I pour 2-3 jugs worth of glaze inside, swirl it around and then tip it out. I find it easier to handle the exterior glazed surface gently, without damaging it, whereas handling the interior when so much force is needed, is much harder in my opinion. If your glaze contains more clay and isn’t damaged so easily by all means do it the other way around, but ultimately with this craft it’s a matter of figuring out the best way of doing it for yourself.
What do you think of this vase? I always tell myself I need to create more pieces with the simple line adornment and this might be the vessel that convinces me.

Absolutely lovely art deco piece! As you can see, I've recently been reminded of the movement. However, you take it to a new level.
I used to be drawn to more illustrative pottery designs, but your videos really make me appreciate the aesthetic properties of the uniform glaze as it interacts with the shape of the pottery.
Worth £1200 of anybody's money…
I love your larger pieces.
It was so convinced that the pot of glaze was going to overflow. You really got that one close
So beautiful! I love it so much
Phenomenal
Does the protruding line serve a functional purpose, or is it stylistic or historical?
I am a college student and want to get my own pottery wheel but I have no where that is reasonable to put it. I wanted to get a subscription to a shared studio near me but it is more expensive than I'd like. I've watched you make your work for some time now and absolutely love it.
As a female potter I know I have more upper body strength than the average female but there are sometimes when I go “I wish I could do that by myself.” On the other hand most of the male potters I know that are my age have some kind of back problems.🤷🏻♀️I’m 68 by the way.
The glazing is wild
That's so beautiful
It almost has a crystalline glaze
Florian, might I suggest placing your glaze bucket inside of a shorter but wider container? That way, if the bucket were to overflow, the mess would end up in the secondary bucket rather than on your shoes and floor. Cheers from Massachusetts
Beautiful, the color is stunning
Beautiful ❤
I don't like the seam. It's incongruous to the point of being slightly jarring.
But that's my take. I mean you made it so obviously it's still beautiful.
I think it would be interesting to see some pottery with different glazes outside and inside maybe it could even make it look bigger from the inside if the inside is black might try that myself some day
"…and the bottom is wiped clean." – FROM BABIES, TO ADULTS, TO POTS, AND SOUP BOWLS – A STEP NOT TO MISS 😮
I think every piece is a best piece
Nice rimming dude
I love hearing the kiln tinkling in the background 😌 so calming
Amazing fucking work, wizard of glaze
It’s so beautiful!
So beautiful
why didnt you dip the entire vase into the glaze at once? is it so that you can better control the amount of glaze that attaches to the outside/inside?
Gurl that dip was something else
That is truly beautiful. The first thing I thought was I could use something like that to grow my orchid.
Couldn't help myself. You said, "And the bottom is wiped clean," and I thought of teaching hygiene to a child in the bathroom. This is a different kind of pot-ty training. I enjoy every video you put up. Thank you.
I agree Florian, this is definitely one of the pottery you’ve ever made.
Truly one of the pottery you’ve ever made.
Well done!
You’re literally copying the denim glasses guy and how he speaks. Infuriating
