  1. Great episode! I’m much more familiar with the Disney parks in California so I always love it when you do a Disneyland or California Adventure attraction. Pirates of the Caribbean is a classic so I’m glad y’all finally tackled this ride.

  2. Long story short: the reason why they didn’t want to include pirates at magic kingdom was due to how close Florida is to the actual Caribbean. So WED imagineer Marc Davis came up with a different concept: the western river expedition (which Tony Baxter took inspiration from when designing big thunder). The western river expedition attraction was going to be a flume ride going back to the Wild West days. The main town was named thunder Mesa (which was used later at Disneyland Paris). The entire concept is featured in Marc Davis’s book. Unfortunately, there was so much outcry over pirates and they scrapped Marc’s western river attraction for pirates.

  3. The WED imagineering team in the 1960’s: Marc Davis, Claude Coats, Blaine Gibson, Al Bertino (Big Al from the country bears was modeled after him), Herb Ryman, Mary Blair, Alice Davis, Leota Toombs (who provided the face for madame leota), Collin Campbell, Xavier Atencio, Rolly Crump, John Hench, Harriet Burns, Fred Joerger, and Bob Gurr. All of them were responsible for designing and creating attractions at Disneyland in the 1960’s.
