  1. Growing up, I hated reading. This was the first book I ever read (probably read it 20 times back-to-back). I'm 60 yo, so this was certainly NOT recommended reading when I was in school. When the movie FINALLY came out, I was disappointed … but it grew on me, over time

  2. OMG! I remember vividly the first time I saw this movie! I was in 6th grade! From then on, my entire bedroom was plastered with posters of everyone of those heart throbs! Except Tom Cruise. Never been into him. But the book was definitely better!❤️❤️❤️😊

  3. Believe it or not, Tom Cruise was 20 years old when he filmed this. Yeah he looks 16 or 17 in it. Emilio Estevez was also 20. Ralph Macchio was 19, Matt Dillon and Rob Lowe were 18, C Thomas Howell was the youngest at 16, and can you believe Patrick Swayze was the oldest at 30 years of age when filming this?…Amazing.

  4. 1 of my faves!
I read the book in I.S.S. in 9th grade! I absolutely love the book & the film!
I don't live too far from the filming locations. I'm dying to go see the museum! Thanks for the reaction!
    💛STAY GOLD!💛

  5. My favorite movie, and my favorite book! The extended version is definitely the version to watch, though. It's how Coppola wanted to release it, but the studio wouldn't let him, and it includes much more of the book. Everyone I knew in the late 90s read it in 7th grade (I did in 6th because my sister was a year older and told me I'd like it after she'd read it.)

  7. I saw this in the theatre. Back then, it was really common for teenage girls to wear really heavy black eyeliner and mascara. After this ended, the girls bathroom at the theatre was packed with girls trying to clear the black tear stains from their faces. We looked like sad clowns.

  8. A little trivia: This movie had so many really popular 80’s teen heartthrobs. And most went on to great careers, even today. C. Thomas Howell, who I thought was so cute is in a really popular Netflix movie right now, Obliterated. Ralph Macchio, the Karate Kid franchise and Netflix’s Cobra Kai amongst others. Matt Dillon was in a ton of 80’s & 90’s movies. Emilio Estevez also was an 80’s staple. Breakfast Club, St. Elmo’s Fire, etc. He’s also the brother of Charlie Sheen (Two and a Half Men, Wall Street, Platoon) and the son of Martin Sheen, an acting legend. Rob Lowe, who still looks great today was a huge heart throb in so many films, and tv shows and is in 911 Lone Star today. Even Diane Lane (Cherry Valance) has had a great career and is in so many films and tv shows. The little girl asking for money was Sophia Coppola, Francis Ford Coppola’s (The Godfather 1 & 2) daughter and she directed and starred in Godfather 3. Lastly, Tom Cruise ended up becoming the biggest star in Hollywood. This film launched a ton of careers. Oh, and the hospital nurse was the book’s author S.E. Hinton.

  9. The whole cast is famous – you should recognize almost everyone, they are in TONS of movies. You could spend a year just doing movies that have people from this cast and it would probably be very popular 🙂

Tom Cruise you know. Darry was Patric Swayze – his biggest hits were Ghost, Road House, Point Break and Dirty Dancing. Dally was Matt Dillon – also in tons of movies, probably the biggest are Crash and There's Something about Mary; my personal favorite is Beautiful Girls. Johnny, like you said was the Karate Kid. Pony was C Thomas Howell – he's in lots of things, including ET Red Dawn. Soda was Rob Lowe, he's one of the Rat Pack – he's in the West Wing, Wayne's World, Austin Powers, Mulholand Falls, etc… 2-Bit is Emilio Estevez – he's in The Mighty Ducks, Mission Impossible, Young Guns, and the Breakfast Club. Cherry is Diane Lane – she's in Unfaithful, Must Love Dogs, Hollywoodland, etc. The Socs Include Tom Waits (HUGE name in song writing), William Smith – most famous for Rich Man Poor Man, Gailard Sartain from the Replacements and Fried Green Tomatoes (my favorite movie with him is Ernest Goes To Camp where he's one of the goofie cooks), and Darren Dalton who's mostly in B-movies and horror flicks.

  10. Fun facts: the image of them all smiling was a candid shot of them just relaxing. The two groups playing Greasers & Socs kept separate to make the onscreen tension more realistic
Heartwarming fact: everyone who worked on this film became really good friends behind the scenes & became close with SE Hinton the author of the book
