  1. when I think of dictators I think of Angela Merkel in Germany or Macron in France, after all they have been in power as long and it is not as if people are happy with them, France literally has riots every month

  2. Samoza was bad and so is Ortega. It can't be understated that the use of foreign intervention in Nicaragua's politics is almost entirely to blame for its terrifying sequence of dictators. If the US hadn't supported the Samoza regime, then the Sandinistas wouldn't have been nearly as reactionary towards it as they were. On top of that, the Iran-Contra scandal led to a bunch of chaos in the US as well–It was partially to blame for the crack-cocaine epidemic that absolutely devastated inner cities. Because of the Nixon and then the Reagan presidencies, the US now has an outsized number of incarcerated people.

  3. As a costarrican, i can say that living next to this guy is very stressful. Every time there is some sort of internal strife in Nicaragua he threatens war with Costa Rica as a distraction tactic, and the sheer numbers of people escaping his regime have caused several migratory crises the last few years. I can only imagine how horrible it must be to actually have to live in the same country as him.

  4. Sometimes I wonder if I were downfall it's going to be somebody playing the long game moved to the USA versus a child. Make them a citizen groom that child to one day take office take over the nation or sabotage it. I know it's wild and they have a lot of stops along the way. But man that would be somehow some cards level BS right there. I would be both terrified and absolutely in awe at the effort. Like wow This was the most evil methodical plan and the fact that he was successful at it would have me clapping as I cry

(I know that might sound weird, but even at my first job at a restaurant I used to applaud those who would find loopholes in the business's menu or system to save money and it thought it was weird to punish people for their faulty procedures like being able to get an entirely separate burger for $2.50 plus a $0.30 bun versus spending $10 for the whole burger. When you could just add an extra meat patty and buy a separate bun. My boss told us as we can't let people do that if we see them doing that and I'm like why not just remove the option from the menu that you don't want people doing it? Why punish people for finding the loophole in your menu? That's weird. Just fix it after you find out. If they're instead of making us be tiredness against people because they're going to ask us why can't they do that if it's obviously an option? And I'm just going to have to respond with because you can't. That sounds so dumb)

  5. Yep…sounds exactly like Nazi Germany where neighbors were turning in neighbors for more food or to be left alone themselves…for a few months. Scary. There's a scarier part but I no longer feel safe saying that part out loud.
