  1. I just love the idea of some guy holding a limb as it's being severed from the (still conscious) patient and think "this thing would be great for getting rid of that tree in my yard."

  2. You know, as soon as you said that it was used in the medical field it clicked! Using handsaws (bonesaws?) during the early part of the century during battles and war it makes sense that someone would want to create an easier-to-use device along the lines of what they already know. STILL not sure how a large device like that would be useful anywhere near a birth canal though D:

  3. I get anxiety attacks in the dental office when I hear the drill, if I was in an emergency room and heard a chainsaw start up, I would nope out immediately and hope that I could find a home remedy!!

  5. To be fair it probably was cleaner and faster than a knife so less likely to cause the patient to lapse into shock and psychosis. Still horrifying but that should put in perspective what surgery was like back then. Brutal and few survived.
