The Order: 1886 Retrospective + PS5 60fps Gameplay – Made in 2015, Still Stunning Today

Released in February 2015, The Order: 1886 was a stunning PlayStation 4 game at the cutting-edge of rendering technology, with visuals that still hold up today. The game’s release pre-dated in-depth Digital Foundry coverage, something we’re looking to address with this new video! Ready at Dawn’s game never received a sequel and never received a PS4 Pro upgrade, but thanks to developments with exploited, older firmware PS5 consoles, we can now show you the game running locked at 60 frames per second.

  1. Any chances on a material about Remember Me? It's a great looking game with awesome tech, like PBR or parallax convex volume corrected reflections. It's extremely impressive, especially considering that it was made for PS3/X360.

  2. It still looks incredible to this day. Hard to believe it's from 2015! Materials are super impressive and poly counts are sky high for that time period. They definitely developed some great tools, but that would be nothing without great artists making use of it.

  3. Just ordered a disc from ebay for £7.59 having watched this. Not sure why I've never considered it before (probably the negative press) but it looks right up my street. Think a similar thing happened with Days Gone and I played that last year and loved it. Thanks for the retrospective

  4. For me one of the best games in the PS4 era. Those graphics were far ahead of their time back in the day, even today it looks awesome, far better than lots of modern games. The only thing I regret is that there is no sequel…..and of course I have to mention….Thermite Rifle…..one of the best weapons overall in gaming for me …. good job digital foundry for this retrospective !!!

  5. This is one of the games that i was jealous of my friend for having a PS4. I had Xbox because i was so deep in the Microsoft ecosystem after 360, that I couldn't bring myself to jump to PS4 if i was only buying one console like i was early in the console cycle. But then when i saw this game my jaw hit the floor, and i was jealous. It's crazy how good it still looks today! You could release this game, unchanged but at a higher framerate or resolution, and it would still outclass most games being released today!

  6. I loved the graphics, the atmosphere and even the story despite its shortcomings.
But the poor level-design (ambush arena after ambush arena, with conveniently placed boxes in the middle of the road for covers), and the way too rigid gameplay (especially when going into or quitting a cover) were crippling the title … and the tasteless copy-paste QTE boss fight ended to push the nail into the coffin.
I'm sad I will not know the end of the story, but I must admit, playing the game was not so enjoyable as I expected (the stealth sequence in particular as well as the encounters with the shotgun guy >__<).
