Absolutely incredible. You are one of the most talented and dedicated creators in this fandom tug. I was in awe the whole way through.
i would cry if unlucky tug told me this with the island song on a speaker because the island song
since it makes everyone sad
Wow, what a really amazing map you created! Yeah, David Mitton really spiced things up, making the show. And my God, how long Thomas' branch line is, the fishing village on Edward's branch line, what was thought to be Ffarquhar Sheds is actually Tidmouth Sheds (a second version), etc! Also plenty of inaccuracy. But hey, like you said, the map wasn't perfect, and there are still questions to answer. Perhaps not all, but there has been plenty of inaccuracy, everywhere, in regards to locations and which engines travel on them. Speaking of which, the three bridges sure are confusing, but I love the layout of them too. And I still love the windmill on Toby's branch line being featured in the intro for Thomas. 😄
Also, I think it's pretty cool to expand the lines and which engines travel on them. 👍😉 And you can have your own imagination. Besides, the CGI series did well being based on the Railway Series map more. And while it and the model series map are different, I still like to see those series in the same canon. Either way, pretty amazing map for the model series, with plenty of questions but a great depiction.
This map makes sense and I consider it as the most realistic.
I’m SO torn on this map. I really loved your previous interpretation and it seemed logical with the majority of episodes. Whilst this one is obviously more “official” but makes zero sense.
Hi
Amazing job. Can’t wait to see where the sets and destinations from seasons 5-7 fit in the map. And it maybe difficult and maybe confusing , but maybe also the sets that were made for Thomas and the Magic Railroad. I guess the tracks that were in Thomas’ first ever movie might be confusing on where they might be, but maybe could you try to see where they might be on the map? Even if the movie is canon or not.
To be fair, I wouldn't be surprised if that map is from the shows pre-production. And most of the time during filming the production tends to deviate for one reason or another. And this isnt a problem with Thomas or Mitton himself, thats just the nature of filmmaking.
I imagined a model railway of this map while watching this video
Wow the David Mitton map is finally here.
How about next time you explain us the map from season 8-12
YOU SPONSERD ROBLOX SHEEEEEEEESH
16:14 I thought Bill & Ben pranked Boco in Brendam, not Wellsworth.
I am really looking forward to a Part 2 to this 👍🏻
Yay right on my birthdays
I love your video detailing the map of Sodor! I really enjoyed it
To be honest with you this map is completely bonkers, and I thought Downloading the sodor map on Wikipedia and changing it to include the cement works, the wharf and the Great Waterton and Harwick branch lines was hard.
Everytime Unlucky Tug uploads it's always a treat for us! Thank you Nic for these videos of yours for us fans of Thomas The Tank Engine. ♥
Okay, as much as I adore David Mitton, I have to ask: Was he huffing the engines smoke fumes when he was making this?
Yes yes YEEEAAAAAAAAAAHH
AMAZING VIDEO, however you missed ONE set from season 1, that being a bend that appeared only in the Episode Coal. It’s a redress of the set from Whistle and sneezes, which goes on the line from Knapford to Tidmouth, whilst the Coal set would probably go on the dryaw line before Elsbridge, as it is after the square arched bridge.
what about duck going to the third track on gordons hill?
"Blows his ash at the boys."
You knew what were doin there didn't ya. C'mon on now. Don't try to hide it. Just own it.
An explination for the random t junction would be the 2 of the 3 sudrian railways built lines to suddery and it was more expensive to remove the line than it was to keep the line running
I wonder if fans of the books were offended by the TVS changing the map back in the day?
You should make a video of the east side that would be great
34:34 thank you. Everyone was saying it on the little western but we always see engines going to and from brendam on it
I do think that David Mitton's take on Sodor served more as his mean to explain the locations in Season 1 going forward, rather than necessarily having been worked out ahead of filming. Keep in mind that aside them already having a solid base to refer to, with the Railway Series publications up to the time they made the budget-cautious first season, the production team routinely filmed each scene showing a particular set (say, you want to film a scene depicting Wellsworth) all in one go before moving onto the next major set and repeating the cycle; a filming order governed by the amount of times the set would be used. The recently-discovered raw rushes from Season 5 reinforce this.
I don't find it too surprising either that set-pieces devised to suit a particular storyline would be somewhat looked over by the following season; like with the aforementioned filming order process, another common tendency in the motion picture business. Regards, Samuel Farris.
Hey Tug, quick question. What program do you use to make your maps? Do you use Photoshop or some other program of the sorts.
25:50 Perhaps the car ferry was made solely to help transport materials to construct the bridge itself
David Mitton did surely had his own vision for the series
This is one of your greatest map explanations of all time.
So based on the map u have made could someone make a full 00 or 0 gauge outdoor layout 🤔
What if the Windmill on Toby’s branch is actually just identical to the one on Thomas’?
It's funny how even to this day , we still learn SOOO much about the show and how it worked…
The length and intricacies of Thomas' branch line explains why he thinks so highly of it, and why he considers it the most important part of the whole railway.
Really great work here deciphering all those pencil lines on David's map! I think one thing I'd change is that on the original map there isn't actually a lake between Marthwaite and Arlesdale End, so I think the large lake on Toby's Line is actually supposed to be Black Loch. Great work as always!
