  2. I know the stories but what are they about? Did the Greeks take their moral and philosophical ques from these stories? Or are they just stories….

  3. I'm sorry to be that guy, but was this narrated by AI? This is the most monotonous tone I've ever heard. Every.single.paragraph. is read in the exact same cadance. It sounds like a blessing you get in church. Mix it up a bit, and have some idea of how each paragraph fits into the next. It's incredibly droning.

  4. Odysseus went to the Atlantic Ocean.
To get into the underground kingdom of Hades.
And Madame Krestin Pelech conducted a deep study of the Odyssey path. And he believes that he made a trip around the world.

  5. Are the Odyssey and the Iliad stories of the custom of Tribal hospitality and warnings about breaching them? Did Ulysses represent a history of the exploration of the Mediterranean?

  6. If you want to buy into the art market after an historic, unprecedented price run, you will need more than a cool app to ensure you are not the “greater fool” buying from all the wealthy, smart money investors looking for ways to monetize their phenomenal price gains. But hey I’m sure you know enough about art, macroeconomic trends and sector investing to avoid that common trap, right? I’m sure you have factored into your calculations an era of high inflation, decoupling from china, Russia being wiped off the economic map, demographic trends and the impact of QE unwinding while governments grapple with the debt overhang from the lockdowns. All you need is a cheap app….

  7. I can't remember where I read it, perhaps in one of the shorter stories that fill in the gaps of the Iliad, Odyssey, Aeneid, etc, but I believe Odysseus had one final mission to accomplish after he returned home. Supposedly, when Odysseus and his men were sacking Troy, they violated or desecrated a temple dedicated to Poseidon. In anger, it was Poseidon who endlessly turned the winds and waves to keep Odysseus from reaching home for ten years.
In order to appease Poseidon, Odysseus had to travel inland with an oar until he reached a point where someone would ask him, "what's that"; a land that knew nothing about ships, or the sea, or Poseidon, God of the sea. There he had to build a temple or alter and offer a sacrifice to Poseidon; bringing the knowledge and worship of Poseidon to a land that had previously not known of him.

  8. I've enjoyed your re-telling of the Illiad and the Odyssey… but I'd like to make one minor correction, if you don't mind. Mate, lotuses DON'T grow on trees! They're water-plants and grow in ponds, much the same as water-lilies. Don't mention it… 😉

  9. Romans Wrote Themselves Into Greek Culture. The Romans plundered and emulated Greek Culture.

Greek historians dated the founding of Rome. Troy was thousands of years old. Plus: When the Trojans brought the horse into their city, the hidden Greeks opened the gates to their comrades, who then sacked Troy, massacred its men, and carried off its women. This version was recorded centuries later; the extent to which it reflects actual historical events is not known.

You shouldn't approach this documentary, as history in the typical sense. Treat it as an interesting speculative documentary with some historical information thrown in.

There's an intelligent documentary to be made about the Odyssey and the Greek culture and this isn't it.
