Penn State’s open practice took place outside in the sunshine and cool spring evening, allowing the media to observe different position groups than last week’s session in Holuba Hall. T-Frank will begin with the important news and observations from last night that stood out from a newsworthy perspective.

Franklin mentioned after practice how he hopes the team will respond to the next live scrimmage the team does during camp. The group will refresh fans on how practice is scheduled and when to expect news through the next four weeks.

Next, they’ll give their observations about practice. Each week Bauer analyzes the offense while Fitz spends his time with the defensive unit. What stood out about practice this week? They’ll give their thoughts. If you want the full picture, check out Bauer’s article from last night.

Next, they’ll discuss interesting quotes from Franklin’s media session during “Between The Lines,” where the group interprets what the Penn State head coach is really saying.

Here are some quotes they’ll discuss this week.

On wide receivers KeAndrew Lambert Smith and the wide receiers:

“He’s been really good so far this spring. We need him to be the guy, like a true number one. Not just at Penn State but really, in the conference and a guy people are talking about nationally. Trey’s also had a really nice spring camp so far.

We’ve got to figure out who that third guy is going to be. There’s going to be a competition with all of those guys, but I think that’s one of the big question marks between now and the first game. Who is going to be that third guy that’s going to separate? There’s a number of guys that are going to battle for it, but who is going to separate themselves from the pack and be a true number three, or are we going to rotate that position all year long?”

Lastly, they’ll open the Blue White Illustrated Mailbag to answer Penn State Fan questions. If you’ve got a question you want to contribute to the show, join the team live at 10 am and participate in the live chat! T-Frank will pull select questions and comments throughout the show to join the fun.

  1. Still need big DT. I'm not worried about WRs especially since our TEs are amazing. Wish we would use them like georgia does. Feel our TEs are that talented. I'm worried about #43 linebacker speed and tackling as well.

  2. Im concerned about the way the quarterback position is being managed. I want to see what Allar can do. I dont want to see any split time becuase someone else has running ability, we have seen that type of play from the position. I would rather see what Allar can do to bring the offense to the next level. Im disappointed to hear that Allar might not even get a majority of the snaps.

  3. For Malick Meiga I get the perception that he was a 2nd team receiver who developed a chemistry with CV and hadn’t gelled with Sean for some reason. Not a lost cause but perhaps swap him over to beef up the Tight Ends room, even if he’s only called on to block in the formation for springing Nicholas or Kaytron for ’23. And hope he blossoms for his senior season in ‘24.
I still hold out hope for Kaden Saunders to have a breakout season and go on to have a respectable career. I believe he came in with that great class of ‘22 with some expecting him to win a Biletnikoff and be what Singleton and Allen were for the squad as Freshmen and it just didn’t pan out. Although Wallace III still is ahead of him.
