  1. The PWHL starting without team names was a bad idea and Utah starting without a name is bad too. Just because the PWHL succeeded in spite of that doesn't mean that it wasn't a mistake. How much more money could they have made with proper team names and merch?

  2. The weirdest thing to me is what happens when Alex Meurelo gets the rink done, Coyotes come back to the League with an expansion draft? So the way this franchise has played out basically gets wiped clean, they’ll be able to draft a decent team, all new admin, coaching, players, etc. that’s so weird, and almost unfair that Utah has to come into the league with the shityotes and the coyotes get to come back with a new look franchise like Vegas or Seattle, which have both been good teams and competitive teams.

  3. Honestly I don’t think the NHL is going to expand anywhere. I feel the only way that places like Portland, Phoenix, Kansas City, San Diego, Houston, Atlanta, Charlotte, Orlando, Jacksonville, Indianapolis, San Antonio, Oklahoma City, Louisville, Hartford, Harrisburg, Richmond and Norfolk to ever get teams is through relocation.

  4. murelo is gone. He cashed out and he's not coming back. The whole thing was a con job to flip the franchise and he never had any intentions to own a team long term. He was essentially speed running the team into the ground. They weren't even paying hotel bills ffs. And the league still wants him back?? Come on. The whole "timeline" that he must fulfill to get the team back seems more like a settlement so he can't sue.

All this farce happened on Gary's watch because he is so stubborn in making Phoenix work that he'll allow anyone to own the team as long as they'll not relocate, despite the fact that this franchise has NEVER made any profit during its 28 year run. It's a FAILING business. It went bankrupt at one point!! A reminder that Gary had the league secretly pay the team's bills. Yes phoenix is a big media market but it is not a viable market for hockey. Gary wants to fail another 28 years again?

  5. If Mereolo sucked as an owner why do they think he’ll do better a second time. he never spent any money on his roster. Why let him have another team if he isn’t going to try to win?

  6. It's not really uncharted waters to have a suspended franchise. The original Ottawa Senators went bankrupt and the franchise was suspended for a year, came back to play a year later as the St. Louis Eagles and then went bust again. So it has happened. The other thing, "Oh, we got to get the team name right" is such BS. Sure, they're gonna do a whole big marketing study and focus groups and a bunch of shyster consultants are going to get rich by peddling their brand of voodoo, but if the team is good they can name them the Toilets and they'll sell merchandise. If they came up with a plain old boring name like the Utah Bears, and the team is good, is that going top make them less popular? Instead they'll come up with something they think is cool and edgy, like "The Ultimate Utah" and think they're breaking ground. That's how you end up with stupid team names like "The Wild" and ":The Magic".

  7. The Washington franchise in the NFL went with Washington football club for a year before settling on the terribly named commanders. So if the NFL can do it and come away unscathed, the NHL has zero to be ashamed of. Having a destination with no nickname.

  8. I am excited about welcoming the Utah Ice Hawks or the White Hawks. Yes, this is a real hawk if you want to look it up. The point of the NHL franchise is to have a team in Utah by the time the 2034 Winter Olympic Games come to Utah again.

  9. I bet that if Alex Meruelo wins the land auction and follows through with the new building that the NHL will move the Winnipeg Jets to Arizona then expand to Houston and Atlanta.

  10. Mike Sullivan's man crush on Jeff Carter cost the Penguins the playoffs last year. He did better this year to a degree but in reality he sucked on Penguins after Ron Hextall resigned him.

  11. Utah will succeed in the NHL. Smart move on Bettman's part on the Business side. Love hearing the NHL Board of Governors vote in favor to move the coyotes To Utah. Love hearing that. Congrates to utah & the Fan Base. Better fit for utah then Arizona. Considering Arizona main sports are FootBall, Baseball & Basketball. Got my wish. 27 years later. Next up Houston & Quebec then theirs 34.
