The Mystery of the Letter D

The enigmatic origin of the letter “D” has long intrigued linguists and etymologists. Its roots can be traced back to the ancient Phoenician alphabet, where it appeared as a symbol representing a door or entrance. However, there is some disagreement over whether it originally referred to the shape of a fish, as there are many Egyptian symbols that the Phoenican “dalet” could be derived from. Regardless of it’s origin, over time, as the Phoenician script evolved and influenced various writing systems, the symbol transformed into the letter we know today.

  3. I learned the letter for D in Korean because it “looks” like a door ㄷ! Unfortunately, the actual word for door does not use the symbol, just coincidence “문”

  4. Man this is kinda hilarious for me, I was internet-ing it up and stumbled upon another language video and within the comments of this video there was this individual that had a boner for his Phoenician heritage talking shit to this Greek guy saying “only if he knew where his language is truly came from.” Come to find Out they themselves just copied Egypt ☠️
