The Most Massive Helicopter Ever Flown by the US Military

The successful line of Sikorsky Aircraft’s long-running CH-53 series of helicopters found renewed emphasis in the 21st century with its latest iteration: the unmatched King Stallion.

As an evolution of its predecessors, the CH-53K King Stallion resulted from 50 years of development and operational excellence. Able to carry up to 36,000 pounds on its single center point cargo hook, the robust helicopter entered service with the US Marine Corps as the service’s main heavy-lift helicopter just in time.

In the fall of 2021, a MH-60S got stuck in the White Mountains of California. And there was only one aircraft powerful enough to retrieve it.

As Lieutenant Colonel Luke Frank, leader of the Marine Operational Test and Evaluation Squadron One, stated: (QUOTE) “This is exactly what the K is made to do. Heavy lift is a unique and invaluable mission for the Marine Corps. Horsepower is our weapon system and the CH-53K is armed to the teeth.”

Join Dark Skies as we explore the world of aviation with cinematic short documentaries featuring the biggest and fastest airplanes ever built, top-secret military projects, and classified missions with hidden untold true stories. 1. My unit recovered a downed UH-60 Blackhawk in a 2000+m high mountain range in Afghanistan in under 8 hours with a CH-47 that was of Viet Nam vintage. I wonder what took them so long to recover the one in your video?

  2. I am no engineer. I wonder why we do not have a heavy lift vehicle modeled after the quad-rotor drones we see all over the place. Im sure there is a very obvious answer to this.

  3. As a former Vietnam War veteran who flew choppers in the war, wow we have come so far. Compared to the old Huey’s these are night and day. Although I still love the old Bell Huey’s

  6. God I wish we could comment on the commercials that play before the videos… some goin is swilling some self defense book, talking about “most people don’t know how to execute a proper groin-strike” like, buddy, any man out there, ANY MAN OUT THERE fuckin knows exactly how to execute a proper groin strike as he also knows it doesn’t take an exact, death dealing blow to hurt, all you gotta do is graze nuts to make it hurt. If you’re a man, and you’re unsure how you’d go about kicking or slapping another guy’s nuts in order to make it hurt and be a bit more than an inconvenience, it’s because you’re actually a lady.

  7. Unfortunately those who have never served in the military will probably never understand the relationship between helicopters and war. I was in Vietnam and helicopters were essiential.
