  3. To the title, my response is – really?
    LOL. The Hong Kong MTR manages a multitude of subway transit systems across the world including in western Europe, down under in Australia and in China. That’s all in addition to running the mass transit system in its own home which carries 5 million passengers a day punctually with trains arriving at the far majority of the stations within tens of seconds (not minutes) of each other, all metrics the Spore MRT can only dream of. So, in what way is the MRT even an inspiration to the world’s mass transit systems or influential?

  4. If Spore’s MRT is the most influential, how do you square that with the fact even the Germans (and many of their counterparts in the west) have chosen the Hong Kong mass transit system instead of the Spore MRT to manage their subway transit systems?

Singapore🇸🇬 it a GEM in the equator…a real gem..but , now Singapore really needs to improve its IQ to the top..even more than China🇨🇳or Japan🇯🇵…we need Singapore to use its all resources to improve people's IQ as well as making it sustainable in the long run…. Singapore also needs to try its hands with genetic engineering… especially crispr technology which has a huge potential in engineering people with desired traits..it must be used by Singapore for improving the IQ of its people… albeit it'll require extensive research as well as development of the technology to the final phase.. Singapore can easily do it! Singapore also needs to construct a huge infrastructure that mimics the higher latitude climate… the entire environment that'll inevitably help the people … Evolve in fastest climate… learning from sa and Africa…

  7. Fun fact about some of the new mrt! In order to give high rise hdb building privacy from the mrt riders, they have automatic smart windows shadeout that prevent people from peering into residential homes!

  8. 6:05 Actually its more likely to be the opposite – all older (i.e. North East Line & older) but only some of the newer fully underground stations are bomb shelters e.g. at Caldecott station, only the older Circle Line section is certified as one, perhaps as the newer Thomson-East Coast section has skylights to make it feel more spacious
    6:25 Only Punggol LRT has 14 stations; Sengkang LRT has only 8+5=13 stations
    10:40 After Woodleigh, Buangkok, Sengkang & Punggol LRT stations were fully built but only opened much later due to low demand, stations built in areas where demand is expected to arrive only later in the future (still built because they're part of a newly built line serving other busier areas & not building them leaves a huge gap between stations) were usually only partially built i.e. with the concrete structure but not the electrical equipment e.g. escalators, transformers due to backlash over the maintenance costs incurred with the earlier approach. So when Mt Pleasant & Marina S stations on the upcoming Thomson-East Coast Line stage 3 were fully built out like other stations, it was thus a bit surprising that their surrounding land wasn't developed to induce demand for the stations (though there were long-term plans to build around the conserved Old Police Academy that surrounds the former station)
    15:00 Both Sengkang & Circle Line's Kim Chuan Depots were designed to allow for ~10 more floors to be built above them to be used as factories/warehouses, which would be useful as land is scarce here, but that didn't happen eventually due to security worries I heard

  9. I was there in 87 when the MRT opened and found the experience and ability for me being visually impaired to easily navigate the service was and is still outstanding. It has grown a lot since then and my last visit in 2018 was still as exciting. Trains arriving every 90sec took some getting wed to if you were with a group so you had to have a backup plan incase you got seperate. You certainly don't try and rush into a train as the auto doors don't stop for anyone. thanks for a great update

  10. The Johor Bahru to Woodlands rail shuttle service is actually a known as the Johor Bahru–Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS Link). It will be a Medium Capacity System with 4 car trains (maybe upgrade to heavy rail rapid transit if possible) and it is not a People Mover. It will be jointly operated by SMRT Corporation and Prasarana from Malaysia.

Another fun fact, some of the MRT stations in the CBD area are connected to one another through a series of walkable underground tunnels and underpasses which also served to connect different buildings in the area together. These tunnels and underpasses also serve as F&B stops or retail and services.

  12. Speaking of fares, you can actually pay with Mastercard Paypass or Visa Paywave too. Tourists need not purchase EZLink or NETS FlashPay card to travel around Singapore.

  14. I find it interesting that Singapore, and not Tokyo nor Taipei, is the most influential. Considering the stability and reliability of the other two (and how much Singapore screwed up during the 2-ish years during the Circle Line saga), this honestly surprises me. Granted it’s pretty good and robust as a system when it works and I’m grateful for that but I just find that curious.
