THE MOST DANGEROUS THING I HAVE EVER DONE!

AND IT WAS GLORIOUS! The footage is stunning, the danger is real, the triumph is glorious. With the greatest risk comes the greatest reward. Come with us on this experience of a lifetime. I’m a 73 year old solo senior woman nomad with hiking limitations, to put it mildly! We’re on a six month roadtrip we call “Let’s go Chasing Waterfalls.”

Mingo Falls – from the National Park Service:
Rising to over 120 feet, Mingo Falls is located in the home of the Cherokee Indians in Cherokee, North Carolina. It is one of the tallest and most spectacular waterfalls in the southern Appalachians.
As hiking trails go, Mingo Falls Trail is a short walk but the climb to the falls is steep–it includes 161 steps with a rise of 180 feet! Despite the stairs, the hike to Mingo Falls is moderately easy. Please be aware though, that elders, families carrying small children (or dogs) or people with physical challenges may find the climb more difficult.

  2. I am so proud of you Jan! That was no easy hike. Were you wearing clogs? Please invest in a decent pair of hiking boots. The cheaper ones are quite heavy so spend a little more and get a light pair with good traction. I’m glad you had trekking poles

  3. Oh my gosh, I wanna be like you. Amazing!!! You were so brave and even wiser how you accomplished to do what you set out to do. That moment when you took them steps down and the blue angel butterflies 🦋 come fluttering by, was so divine. 🥹 Wow, now that was epic!
    Great job Janet! 👏👏👏♥️

  5. Lovely footage, Jan. And thanks for taking one for the team! No way I'd have made it through that whole climb. Vertigo, sciatica and tremors are a tough team to overcome. Thank you so much for sharing your conquest!

  6. Jan, beautiful footage and so proud of you! I know the exhilarating feeling of achieving a climb like that!! But please be careful! I feel nervous just watching you negotiate those steps!!! I think the most dangerous thing I saw on that video was you taking coco along. I have fallen so many times by getting tangled with my dog’s leash or tripping because she got in my way. The terrain is dangerous enough without having to look after a pet. Don’t want to be a downer but please don’t take unnecessary risks. 🫶💓🥰

  7. I just love what you are doing Jan! My goal was to travel most of this year.
I haven’t been able to do that yet due to family obligations. but I am seeing great accomplishments by other female travelers and it keeps me smiling and motivated. Thank you Jan. ❤

  9. Dazzling, Jan! So glad you made it! I'd like to say angels, but I've seen those blue butterflies in a conservatory in Deerfield, Mass. I'm glad you learned that going down on your backside is no shame. You didn't let it keep you from such a wonderful place. I have trouble with stairs to, and sometimes resort to your technique. Why the heck did they build the stairs to the basement with the first step 12 inches high. My friend's kitchen door has a first step of 12 inches to get into the house, and the next is about 8 inches. She's 82, and just making it. Can't wait for the next adventure.

  10. You’re pure inspiration! An unstoppable leader. So proud of your ability to gut your way through nearly impossible physical challenges, even for those much younger and more fit. Do you realize just how many thousands of women you’ve influenced to GET UP and GET GOING in this ever-shortening life? Love you lots!
