The Mormon Church is going to war with Texas

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is looking set to sue the small Texas town of Fairview if they reject the proposed Temple and its 173ft Steeple. I’m joined by Rebecca and Landon from @mormonishpodcast1036 to discuss why the church feels they have a right to sue, and what else they could do instead.

  1. Don't go pretending to be on the side of the law or residents. It's obvious you three are walkin' in outta darkness at noonday in opposition to that Temple being built. The bells of hell are surely ringin' just as they always do when Temples are planned

  2. They have to launder their illicit funds somehow to justify maintaining their tax free status. Forget about actually helping people, just have the members perform silly and nonsensical freemasonic ceremonies instead. Exactly what Jesus would do.

  3. Imagine if the Scientology Cult came into your little town and starting telling you what to do. This is the same thing. Let's hope the town keeps them out and protects it's citizens from these harmful people.

  4. I think the president of the church is on a ego trip, and he doesn't think he has to listen to any of the saints or anyone else's at that matter and what he is doing is wrong…if the people of fairview Texas don't want a temple there, then church needs to back down and wait….or put it somewhere else….btw..the mesa&the Hawaiian temples don't have spires on them…

  5. I remember when the Frankfurt, Germany, LDS temple was built in the mid-1980s, the architect had to lower the steeple because the Friedrichsdorf Municipality requested that it not be higher than the local Huguenot Church. Additionally, the Church had to promise not to proselyte door-to-door in the vicinity. The Church Offices in Frankfurt back then complied with the request. This is the reason why the steeple in the Frankfurt Temple is not on top of the roof, but it is a standalone steeple on the side and – in my opinion – looks actually very nice :)! Today, the Friedrichsdorf community regards the LDS temple as "their" temple.

  6. It's called bullying. They have used tithepayer money and the wealth they've built with it to intimidate, disrespect property owner's rights and bully to get their gigantic temples built. If the temple work is so important, and it's expedient to get this temple up and running, why are they wasting so much time arguing and bullying over an unnecessarily oversized building and a stupid spire? Is it somehow critical to the effectiveness of the temple work that's done inside? Do people understand that the "spires" are actually obelisks and have a connection with occultic practices? Do members understand that every penny that's spent bullying these citizens over their "spire" and the size of their building could have been used for the good of humanity? This isn't a good look for the church's image. Hypocrites–all of them. It's disgusting.

  7. Maybe a redesign of the steeple? The spiral (Since no more Moroni) could go upward (to approved height) and then take a U turn and point downward to….?

  8. and you know what’s even worse? I bet with all my heart (not betting my heart just a figure of speech) the Jesus Christ will not tolerate his name to be used for the wrong reason and purposes, and especially of getting rich. This in mind lds church your days are coming and you will be judged of how your manipulating the members of the church and you’re using his holy name just to get rich and have other benefits!!

Jesus will not be mocked and he will not tolerate his name in this type of manner look at what happened to France when the Olympic games ceremony happened shut down a huge city and the only light that’s emanating is from a regular Christian church!

  9. Look into what was proposed vs what actually was built in Tooele county Utah. The original location in Erda Utah did not reflect that community at all, the leaders and Temple with a surrounding dense housing community changed the temple name to the desseret peak temple and didn’t include a housing development. The released statement said the church won’t oil’s a temple where the feeling of incompatibility in the community will not be built. It was not built.

  10. I just struggle to figure this out. The town council is not saying you can’t build this building. It’s only saying if you build it obey local laws. No religious persecution is being done. If anything this is a religion pushing its way!

  12. God loves all three of you very much. But if the Lord want a temple built in a certain area then it must happen. Nothing can stop the Lords work. All you are doing here on this YouTube channel is causing others to doubt the Lord those he has called to the work. Your faith is being tried and you need to step up and truly take upon you the name of Jesus Christ. Leave the spirit of contention alone.

  13. The church that used to care so much about its public image and its' affect on neighbors is gone; in its place is a concern only for the leader's image and desires… there's another word for that…

  14. Great discussions folks. Minor clarification: Even within the small town of Fairview, less than 2 miles away, there are sites where the Church could be built as requested (incl. roof/spire height); closer to the majority of the purported congregation. Only the residential site comes with the height restrictions.

  15. This might finally be the thing that makes me officially resign from the church. It's just so embarrassing and enraging to see the church blatantly acting like a mafia about buildings it's expressly said DON'T need to appear a certain way to serve their function. Fairview, I'm rooting for you. Don't let this corporation win. Make it follow its own articles of faith!
