The Montane Winter Spine Race 2025 rolls into life as we cover the start of the Challenger South, the MRT Challenge South and the Sprint. For those that are following for the first time, all three of these ultra marathons start in Edale and follow the Pennine Way.
The Challenger South and the MRT Challenge South cover a distance of 108 miles with a time of limit of 60 hours whilst the Sprint race is 46 miles and needs to be completed within 18 hours.
Snow has fallen in the peak district and its transformed our start line in Edale into a magical winter wonderland. It may be beautiful but in typical Spine style it stays Brutal, with our challenger South runners breaking trail through waist deep snow.

Great footage. Is there a live webcam for the finish being set up?
Fantastic coverage as always. Thank you
Thank you for all the hard work which must go into bringing the participants and this adventure to life for those of us dot watching. Great effort everyone involved! Good luck to all!
That was a great insight into the people involved with the race. A really good watch. Thanks for the video.ππ
Simply the best coverage. Thank you!
Production values on these videos is fantastic, really adds to the joy of following the race from the comfort of my living room.
Beautiful! Now I can't whine when it is 20 to 30 degrees here in NE! This is a wonderful race and video.
It's thawing well today so I'm sure by the time they get here it's going to be slushy and a bit tough. Hopefully the blenkinsop part won't be too boggy for them but I have a feeling it going to be really bad. At least I might be able to get some supplies in before they get here. I've been snowed in since it started snowing and people can't get here. πβ€οΈππ
Good luck all runners π, awesome video π

Give that drone pilot a raise!
The logistics and organisation of these races is immensely complicated but it works fantastic every time come what may……. fantastic! Good luck to every single person involved, you're doing a wonderful job. 2025 date is already on my agenda. THANK YOU
Serious question: would skis be permitted?
I was going to be on the safety team for this years event, broke two bones in my ankle on the way to the sports physio (oh the irony) and now have a lovely big boot on my foot. Completely gutted I canβt be there to help all you wonderfully crazy runners but I will be watching all the dots!!! GOOD LUCK EVERYONE πππππ
13:03 Go Oldham Mountain Rescue Team!
Great work getting the video out. Have to agree with the point about the redundancy of an βathmosphericβ musical soundtrack going on while people are talking. Bit distracting, especially for the hearing impaired (deaf!). One might say that the participants are very capable of creating their own music!β πβ€
Such an inspiring bunch of people! Great footage too, almost makes me want to get out of my cosy slippers π
