In 1996, the world was introduced to a rather interesting computer: The Monorail. Considered by many to be the first all-in-one PC, it sold for just under $1,000 and was aimed at first time computer buyers. Let’s check it out!

Hi Michael you can use a 3D printer to print out and replace the broken parts of your computer
interesting machine! but display was just too small.. i cant remember did graphics cards support dual monitors back then? or did it just mirror the main display? in 95 i had a 386 with a monochrome display and as a kid i was in heaven i had all kinds of games!! i think after that i upgraded to a 486 loll
I would 3d print that mounting piece for you if I had the dimensions.
We had that at my first job in a Restaurant. The one we had was a touch screen and it was used as a POS for food orders.
Thanks for reminding me of my age
*Depressing Ending*
''I hope you enjoyed this video-''
i keep becoming #1 in these games because of your scripts, they're s
I started college in the Fall of 1996 and one of my roommates got a Monorail PC at the beginning of 1997.
They went from all-in-one computer to wishlist app. What a transformation
Can I take it! Please?
I wonder if Jobs saw this prior to doing the iMac (?)
It looks like a crappy cash register computer you'd see in the early 2000s
those bezels are thick
Once of my first laptops had a display like that., it was worthless for gaming… I did get a Toshiba tecra back the day, it was a Pentium 133 and the display was awesome. Till it got older and I traded it for a full size coin op machine (Atari System 1, Road Blasters but, I have other kits for it)
My Gateway Handbook 486DX have a B/W display but, it's just as bad….(I was going sell it long ago but, it was worth nothing so I kept it as I loved it back the day)
I lived through the 386 and later days… so I have seen a lot of PCs and always got a good deal on them…
That's quite similar to an alli-in-one TV/FM radio manufacturer calling themselves "Peoplemover."
Ah yes, a sonic the hedgehog item box
Looks like POS terminal
Monorail is also an elevated train ride in Seattle that takes you to/from Seattle Center to Downtown Seattle.
Seems like more of a Shelbyville Idea….
It's unique but I think it looks cheap and nasty
Interesting to see CHiPS-branded stuff in there. They made the VGA cards for a lot of the all-in-one Dolch PAC luggables, too.
Question, what is a mobile wishlist app?
A 3D printer would make an easy job of creating a new stand/hinge for you 🙂
Interesting Video, i never heard about the monorail-PC before. But i'm even more impressed about your dis- and reassembling skills, i could not do that in 100 years!
I wonder if Monorail was named primarily because of that infamous Simpsons episode and song.
I still have mine. Haven't fired it up in years.
I had that problem with an IDE bent pin once and tried to bend it back but it broke so I used a cut down paperclip and bingo. Never had a problem again! Just a little DIY tip if you don't have a soldering iron to hand or are not confident enough to do it yourself 🙂
What kind of rubber did they use to melt like that. Gotta be one of the weirdest things ive seen
So, could this have run half life?
great video michael mjd great channel well done keep up the good job
1:22 S T O N K S LMAO

You, my dude, are doing the work I couldn't do because of my f**** shaking hands and for that, I admire you
i prefer the look of the 98 pc
I don't suppose you have a restore CD for a Panasonic CF-28 MK1 that you could archive? I have a non English version I got on ebay and its hard to see what everything is because its all in Italian and I'd much prefer to have it in English.
lol
15 people didn't like Monorail
Gateway and their cow patch boxes
I’ve tried 20 times to get this video to play without 2 unskipable ads that are 15 seconds a piece and still no luck how about making the ads skipable and aslo how about no sponsors or if you have a sponsor don’t have ads as it’s annoying to have to try over and over again
mjd vs lgr boxing match, fund it
I got me a gateway laptop and it was trash sadly
Man a monorail pc would be neat for me to own if I could change the screen to a modern better one of the same size. Would be a neat retro gaming pc then that takes up little space compared to a mini pc with a small screen at the side.
Worst name ever, Monorail=Scam, Something that kind of works.
I kept watching ur videos and its cool
Enjoyed the video, this machine is just so charming
this wasn't just a video, this was a tech documentary <3
The All-in-One Monorail PC looks more like the Monolith PC. (5:18, 8:15)
Hah! I had one of these for years. Got it on sale at a Circuit City for a song. I took it home, installed an Ethernet card and FreeBSD. It was a great little machine for it's time. Though, I did have a bit of trouble getting X11 to work on it. Much hair pulling.
"totally real footage of the development team" had me in tears xD
