The Monorail – An All-In-One Windows 95 Computer! (Retrospective)

In 1996, the world was introduced to a rather interesting computer: The Monorail. Considered by many to be the first all-in-one PC, it sold for just under $1,000 and was aimed at first time computer buyers. Let’s check it out!

  1. interesting machine! but display was just too small.. i cant remember did graphics cards support dual monitors back then? or did it just mirror the main display? in 95 i had a 386 with a monochrome display and as a kid i was in heaven i had all kinds of games!! i think after that i upgraded to a 486 loll

  2. Once of my first laptops had a display like that., it was worthless for gaming… I did get a Toshiba tecra back the day, it was a Pentium 133 and the display was awesome. Till it got older and I traded it for a full size coin op machine (Atari System 1, Road Blasters but, I have other kits for it)

My Gateway Handbook 486DX have a B/W display but, it's just as bad….(I was going sell it long ago but, it was worth nothing so I kept it as I loved it back the day)

I lived through the 386 and later days… so I have seen a lot of PCs and always got a good deal on them…

  3. I had that problem with an IDE bent pin once and tried to bend it back but it broke so I used a cut down paperclip and bingo. Never had a problem again! Just a little DIY tip if you don't have a soldering iron to hand or are not confident enough to do it yourself 🙂

  4. I don't suppose you have a restore CD for a Panasonic CF-28 MK1 that you could archive? I have a non English version I got on ebay and its hard to see what everything is because its all in Italian and I'd much prefer to have it in English.

  5. I’ve tried 20 times to get this video to play without 2 unskipable ads that are 15 seconds a piece and still no luck how about making the ads skipable and aslo how about no sponsors or if you have a sponsor don’t have ads as it’s annoying to have to try over and over again

  6. Man a monorail pc would be neat for me to own if I could change the screen to a modern better one of the same size. Would be a neat retro gaming pc then that takes up little space compared to a mini pc with a small screen at the side.

  7. Hah! I had one of these for years. Got it on sale at a Circuit City for a song. I took it home, installed an Ethernet card and FreeBSD. It was a great little machine for it's time. Though, I did have a bit of trouble getting X11 to work on it. Much hair pulling.
