Maynard James Keenan (born James Herbert Keenan; April 17, 1964) is an American singer, songwriter, musician, record producer, actor, and winemaker. He is best known as the singer and primary lyricist of the rock bands Tool, A Perfect Circle, and Puscifer.
Originally from Ohio, Keenan spent his high school and college years in Michigan. He joined the U.S. Army after graduating from high school. After leaving the Army, he attended the Kendall College of Art and Design in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He relocated to Los Angeles in 1988 to pursue a career in interior design and set construction, and formed Tool with Adam Jones shortly thereafter.
In addition to his music career, Keenan owns Merkin Vineyards and Caduceus Cellars in Arizona, where he resides. Since rising to fame, he has been noted as a recluse, although he does emerge to support charitable causes and for the occasional interview. He has also ventured into acting.

THE REVEREND
Anyone know the name of the cowboy hat he’s wearing?
Please interview Perry Farrell for all of us guys and gals in GenX Rick…
love that tshirt!!!
Another great interview.
Loved your questions @rick this was a wonderful interview to listen to.
Friction.
"I can't hear me."
"You're deaf."
🤣
That shirt is hilarious
Just adding to what everyone already knows about how Rick's doing a phenomenal job. But he's essentially letting us see into the nuts and bolts of how the best in the business do their craft. I learn so much about music and as a hobby drummer was glued to the Cameron interview. But to have Maynard sit and talk about the process of how he writes songs is like having Tony Gwynn or Ted Williams tell you how they approached hitting.
I compare these interviews to when Bill Bilicek gets on front of the media and his responds with, "On to the Bengals." But when a reporter asks a question about why special teams are important to him, he opens up and gives a 30 minute talk because there's no agenda behind the question and he answers out of pure love of football.
Rick, you're important to YouTube and for musicians or wannabes like myself who thirst for music knowledge. Your drum tuning videos that maybe 2000 people watched were invaluable for me sounding way better.
Rick you continue to impress! Amazing artist, composer, producer and interviewer.
Thank you for these.
Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful exchange! 💚 Wife and Mom of musicians and artists
You know reached a very special level if you get to do an interview with the frontman of Tool.
Tool and Puscifer, Chicago 2022, we were there. Thank you for the grueling schedule! 💚 Wife and Mom of musicians and artists
Excellent as always, Rick! Can't say more than what everyone else is already said…. Wish he would've talked more about Billy and A perfect circle. Now please get Ian Thornley, Jeff Beck and John Mayer! 😁. Would love it if you asked them how they approach soloing and songcraft, routines they have etc…
What a great interview! Congrats Rick for growing your content, viewership, that helps make things like this possible !!
Loved it, thank you!
Maynard's Vineyards:))
Love that t-shirt that Maynard's wearing.
Honestly, this was a great interview because I could never wrap my head around how rock songs are formed, like what's first? The vocals, the riffs, the drum beats? Illuminating stuff, my friend.
Superb interview. Nice to see the man behind the music.
wo is rick??????
