The Mars One Project – The first human COLONY on Mars !

The mission will include only a one-way trip, Earth-Mars, with no possibility of returning to Earth. So whoever embarks on this journey knows that he will leave the Earth behind forever. He will no longer be able to hug his loved ones or walk in a forest or on a beach. Not to mention the real dangers of such a journey: will our brave ones reach Mars safely?

And after their landing (or, more correctly, landing), what will happen? They will have to build a base that will allow them to survive for the rest of the day, a first base on which to wait – if all goes well – for other brave people on Earth.

Despite these real difficulties, about 200,000 people around the world have now registered in the database of potential candidates for this incredible journey. There are both men and women, from the youngest to the oldest, which proves that the dream of conquering the red planet is a universal dream!

The Mars-One project involves colonizing Mars in 10 years. Even if the project makes us think of a science-fiction film, it is very real and more than 200,000 volunteers have already signed up; only 24 will be elected to leave in 2024.
Most people would not endure a life without friends and family in a new and harsh environment. However, for some, traveling and living on Mars would mean fulfilling a lifelong dream. The project will give a unique chance to those who dream as the old explorers did.

The project itself involves the colonization of the red planet in 2024. For the first time, only 4 people will leave, and then every two years another group will arrive.

Settlers should live in specially designed buildings. At first they will feed on the supplies on Earth, eventually forming an independent community. To make this possible, their food will be grown indoors with the help of LED lights and using hydroponic techniques that do not require soil.

The water would be extracted directly from the Martian soil where it is in the form of ice. Oxygen could be extracted from this H2O, and nitrogen could come directly from the Martian atmosphere.

With all the good and interesting parts of the project, there is something that cannot be changed once started. Once there, if anyone changes their mind, there is nothing left to do because at the moment there is no possibility of returning from the red planet.

For this reason, the key to the success of such a mission is the extent to which future settlers realize that there is no turning back.

By the end of the 19 weeks in which registrations could be made, approximately 202,586 volunteers had gathered. The only requirement is a minimum age of 18 years. At the end of 2013, the selected ones were announced, and during the next two years only 24 finalists will remain. Then will be 9 years of intensive training.
