I don’t know if I like the idea of a hotel in Epcot, probably because we own a DVC interest literally outside the back gate. We are owners at Disney’s Beach Club Villas which already offers breathtaking views of Spaceship Earth. To place a hotel right inside would be thumbing their nose at so many established patrons, especially if it took away from other resort’s views.
Regarding the new Florida district, DeSantis needs to get a life and retire before the company destroys him. The entire reason there is any development in that area is the direct result of the Walt Disney Company. All of the residents and businesses owe their existence in that particular part of Florida to the Reedy Creek Improvement District. If it were never created, Central Florida would be a much different place…maybe not in a good way. I do not like when government officials place themselves into a position where they think they can topple a business that they disagree with politically or ideologically. It’s political suicide. Yeah, your staunch supporters are going to back you…but no one else is. Especially people like myself that understand what Tom said, “this is a place for everyone”, it’s not a place for the elite, the famous, the well-to-do crowd only. It’s for everyone to enjoy. Now, if DeSantis and religious zealots take issue with that…what’s the deal with Universal then? What about SeaWorld? What about Legoland? What about Busch Gardens? What about all the other entertainment venues that are in Florida? Will he target them too? Is he going to close Key West?
If he expects to have any political future at all, he’ll come to his senses and realize how much the Walt Disney Company does for the state of Florida. Your largest employer, larger than all the military contractors combined. It’s not a fight that a person that cares about the people in their own state starts. If he thinks the majority of Floridians are behind him, he should really check again.
While a conservative minded state, people do not like when their livelihoods are taken away. If he keeps picking on Disney, they literally have 49 other choices (or more if you county DC and all the territories) for their resort complex. Even with all of the investment in the area, the could still leave and be very successful in, for example, Texas. Similar climate in the southern part of the state and might even be cheaper property tax wise. I’d hate to see it happen, but it’s within the realm of possibilities.
Hoping that cooler heads prevail and compromises are sought.
I agree the government should stay out of private business. But shouldn’t private business stay out of public education? It’s a two way street.
Of all your rants I’ve diligently listened to, the one on Reedy Creek was THE best. Thanks Tom for saying the right words for a very wrong political decision.
Man, I don’t know how you can withstand all the “vicious attacks” by conservatives about what you have said in the comments here…
It’s sad and honestly pathetic that “your side” will attack you when you abstain from comment. That’s how you know you are in a cult…
Great breakdown of all the news today. 🎉
Just remember, we wouldn't be having this Reedy Creek discussion if the Disney Company had stayed out of politics. Chapek pledged to fight the Parental Rights in Education bill. If you don't want things to get political, then stay out of politics. It's very simple. The woke corporations are going to learn over time that the citizens of a particular state or locality resent outside influence and the pushback happened to Disney.
@rondesantis you need to watch 10:25 to 19:33
Stop acting like this DeSantis
Well said! Thank you.
It frustrates me that Disney would use park real estate on a hotel instead of attractions — or replacing attractions. As park capacity becomes a problem, that's not space you can easily get back.
Tom, you operate with massive omission regarding Reedy Creek and Walt Disney. You can't purport that he was primarily about building a community while forgetting how he was foundationally about families and children. You do him a disservice calling him more of a business man He would be SICKENED by the Left's destruction of children through sexual indoctrination and the bullying of the LGBTQIA, intent to get their way no matter the harm to society…which for a FACT he would have HATED. Get real. You've done him a disservice.
Don't worry, plans are underway to skin all of The Governors Puppies and turn them into fur coats… If he has any, the board is checking into that…..
Tom, I am going to come right out, and say this! I LOVE YOU! I love everything that, you had to say about the Reedy Creek story! I am fed up with all that crap too! I am in total agreement with, every word, that you said! You are not alone, in how you feel about this! Ignore the attacks! You do not have to pay attention to such nonsense!! Thank you so much, for telling us, how you really feel! 💜 Some of us, actually enjoy your "rants"! Also, thank you for pointing out WHY the Reedy Creek was created in the 1st place, by Walt Disney, because it IS documented fact, and it is a part of the history!! I am sick & tired of, all of the posturing, too! Thank you for just being honest and for just telling it, like it is!!😊 💜 💜 💜
You are missing the point here… DeSantis went after Disney because Disney was trying to sexualize kids in the content they were and still are pushing!!! Walt Disney would not support the sexualization of kids Tom! This is what gaslight the whole thing!! You need to stay out of politics and for you not to bring up this problem seriously upsets me. Families don’t like this and they don’t like the direction Disney is going with their movies! I wonder why they are losing so much money in the movies they make! They don’t like the wioke garbage! I cannot watch your show a while. I see where you stand.
DeSantis didn't go after Disney until Disney decided ON THEIR OWN to challenge a law that was passed by the legislature, which was elected by the people, and signed by a governor that just won re-election by 20 points. But Disney decided they were going to devote resources to destroying that law. Chapek promised to put MONEY behind efforts to get the law thrown out. It was Disney that decided to declare war on the state. And this law has nothing to do with Disney! Disney does not have anything to do with how a state decides to educate children in public schools. Disney wants to put money behind a lawsuit (that will fail) to attack a law the majority of the population wants. But it won't put money into Cast Member salaries. It won't put money to fix the grievances the Reedy Creek firefighters have. They won't put money into cleaning up their parks. This is a company that is only interested in advancing a far-left liberal agenda. And sorry, but Walt would be appalled at what this company has become. He was a Republican. But he worked hard to keep politics out of this company's entertainment. Movies like Dumbo and Peter Pan were products of their time more than they were a political statement. Today, Disney is making political statements with their movies. As long as they continue down that road, the government has a right to have their own opinion on it as well. And it's not proving profitable for Disney to do this. Their movies now are all box office bombs. The streaming service is losing billions of dollars. And they keep doubling down on what's not working! You are so focused on appeasing and celebrating only the 10% that you tell the other 90% of your audience to go screw themselves. How is that a good business model? Not every movie or TV show has to be a political statement or a social commentary. What happened to entertainment? I don't want to be lectured every time I turn on Disney+ about how racist or sexist or homophobic society is. I just want to be entertained. If Disney is no longer interested in entertaining…..I'll just go elsewhere.
Loved Tom’s rant, and I learned something too. Also, please take care of that awful sunburn.
Funny how you like to rip on republicans about interfering with companies. Meanwhile it turns out democrats forced Facebook and twitter to filter speech.
TRUST IN GOD ! ONE NATION UNDER GOD INDIVISIBLE WITH LIBERTY AND JUSTICE FOR ALL! IN GOD WE TRUST!
TEACH YOUR CHILDREN THE 10 COMMANDMENTS OF GOD WHICH NEVER CHANGES BUT MAN LAWS DO!
Mandalorian and Rogue One are the only two GOOD Star Wars based shows that Disney has produced. But I'm BOYCOTTING LEFTIST WOKE DISNEY
People forget, Walt was a republican but he was not a political person. None of this has to be political, none of this should be political at all. Thank you for spreading the truth
I 100% agree with your comments concerning DeSantis.
I agree with your political take. It’s about control. The left and right are the same thing.
Bravo on your comments and thoughts regarding the governor. It’s heartbreaking and ironic as he is always spewing “Freedom for Florida”.
Remember the Disney Corp stuck their nose into Florida Politics when, in my opinion, they should not have done. Too late to cry about how the state should just let Disney run everything.
I think the community that Walt envisioned turned out to be Celebration.
its because you say to not be political. yet you do talk about politics. while literally saying "im not going to be political".
Tom is the best.
Excellent statement on the Government statement on Reedy Creek. This is not that "party of small Government" they constantly claim to be. Modern Disney pisses me off constantly so if I'M siding with them on an issue, you know it's bad.
On a positive note, the Luca thing looks adorable!
star tours was a solid ride, fairly reliable to boot
