These arguments about 10 year old tech being useless are such bullshit. First, my UML290 LTE modem is more than 10 years old and works fantastic. Just because something better is available doesn't mean the old thing stops working. My son was excited as fuck to get my old GTX1070 when I got an RTX3080.
Second, you can't compare a consumer device to an application specific device. Especially industrial equipment.
John Deere doesn't have to do anything but stall, they are already winning. Like cars, the industry only needs to wait a few generations for the knowledge and resources to be lost.

Wouldn't it be cheaper to rebuild a combine to the farmers spec? Farmers could get together and make an aftermarket refit kit with all the options without being chained to the corporation? With off the shelf parts.
Stop companies like John Deere from destroying our world. Resist companies that work to destroy customers from owning and repairing their property.
Destroy people who push the “you will own nothing and be happy” agendas. We have a very rich history of protecting our families and protecting our loved ones.
If we lose these fights it will be impossible to reverse the damage done by these companies and the people whom side with them.

Well I was using a computer and ploter from 1985 in 2014. It still made my bosses thousands per month.
I guess I don't see updating/upgrading until I have the need.
More manufacturers are leaning this way. Total control of their products they sell you. New Ford models don't have aftermarket programmers available because the system is locked down. But now Ford sells a programmer.
AMEN, thank you Kevin. I've worked with the folks at Case IH and they're good people. Maybe there's hope that folks there could start to make the RTR efforts that farmers need for us to have a sustainable infrastructure. And maybe those effects will bleed into the automobile industry as that continues to make computers on wheels. I can't wait for the day where you build a car the way you build a PC.

who had the idea first for the serialization of parts first apple or john deer. just like dieselgate which happened in every country of the world and every car company.they did not all come up with these ideas independently. there is conclusions between companies so they each can have mini monopolies.diesels can run on soy bean oil, run them on that. natural gas is also cleaner than diesel.

The whole computer/gps/screen system needs to be opened source software and code, and every manufacturer needs to have hardware that works with this that's upgradable with any usb connected computer. This right to repair needs to happen, this whole scenerio for the farmers is an absolute nightmare omg I'm sick to my stomach what John Deere and others are doing! Equipment needs to be able to be repaired by the farmer to last basically forever!
