  1. Hey guys, Jaby here. For some reason, getting this video to a point where YouTube would even allow us to show it was a real struggle (we’re talking two straight days of effort). We went through 25 passes, which each took a considerable amount of effort, before it finally was at a point where YouTube was allowing us to show our reaction. And it really bums me out that it looks and sounds the way it does as Two Towers is actually my favorite of the three, but I’m hoping you guys are able to enjoy it anyway. It’s bizarre because no one else’s videos are being blocked and they are showing WAY more in terms of clarity of picture and sound. We already have a draft of Return of the King and that looks and sounds a lot better than this. Don’t know what it was about The Two Towers in particular, but as it stands, Return of the King is not going to be this muddied. Also, the fart joke makes way less sense now that you can barely understand the movie. Frodo says, β€œI can smell it.” I would have done one more pass to make sure at least that joke could be heard, but I didn’t want to chance any more issues arising. Getting this video done felt like The Battle of Helm's Deep.

  2. Has Achara not seen these films in a long time? Some of her commentary seems really forced for someone who knows the story. Theoden's "So it begins" really doesn't need a "Yes it does", let Kristen take the lead here since she's new to it.

  3. Achara being a total tiger mom telling Gimli his stupendous (by any other measure other than Legolas) kill count is not good enough.
Mom, is that you telling me my grades aren't good enough and I don't practice my piano enough?
    I keed! I keed!! I love Achara! ❀

  4. I know it's not the first time for Achara, but I never get tired of new people watching LOTR or any other property I love even if it turns out that they don't wind up liking them. I know some things aren't for everyone and there are things I love that others don't and thing I don't that others do, but when it comes together like this when I get to watch people light up at a property that's been so momentous for me, it's always a great feeling.

  5. I.. can't get over and love Kristen saying, "Schmeegol." Aarrrrr, me matey! Set sail for Tortuga!
Or is it like a schmear of cream cheese on a bagel? Cuz pirates or bagels, I love both…

  6. I love how much love Kristen gave Merry and Pippin. I do think they kinda get overlooked just b/c the trio of Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli takes the spolight. Then you have fans of Gandalf, you have the fans who love Sam or Frodo for being central to the story of the ring, but like she said, without Merry and Pippin involving the Ents in the war, Middle Earth might have not had the time to resist Sauron long enough for the ring to be destroyed.

  7. I want to say not too long after the movies came to tv, TBS would run these commercials that were totally bromance and beyond where Frodo and Sam were looking longingly into each others' eyes with romantic music playing in the background all the time. I think you can find a low quality version of it somewhere on youtube.

  8. No, you don't send the women because they are more important. If the kingdom survives they will take a lot of casualties. Only the women can bring the population back up. Otherwise the entire kingdom will fall. Fighting isn't nearly as important as continuing your people. I understand the will to fight, but it is short sighted, and kind of selfish.

  9. I watched every one of these at midnight on release day, and I think they're perfect. I was also lucky enough to be there for the first Trilogy Tuesday, where they showed the first two movies in their extended editions, with the premiere of Return of the King. It was one of the best nights of my nerdly life, because everyone in the theater was there from early in the day, until midnight – the theater even gave us free meals for lunch and dinner. But the best part was that we got to experience the extended editions of the first two films for the first time ever, then the Return of the King after. And all of that with a bunch of other nerds who were so dedicated, that they were at the theater before noon, and stayed there until after two a.m.

We all laughed, cried (and we cried a lot….wait until RotK) and loved these movies as a collective. It was a great experience, and I'd love to repeat this on an annual level. Every year, around the holidays, with a bunch of nerds.

Anyway, thank you for your reactions, which are really fun, and you both seem to really get these movies, despite your young age. πŸ™‚

  10. Driving down the road watch/listening to these LOTR vids and it keeps tripping me out every time y'all reference Kristen's dog because that's a shortened version of my name that my family and close friends call me, only it's spelled different (C rather than K). lol

  11. The tragic part of Arwen and Aragorn's story is that elves are meant to live until the end of the world and then die with the world. But if they're killed their souls stay in the world in a sort of purgatory until possibly being reembodied. But the souls of humans leave the world to an unknown fate. So Arwen's choice is between basically eternity with her family, or a short time with Aragorn and then leaving with him, hopefully to some sort of afterlife. She won't be reunited with her father because she will become human. It's a goodbye that goes beyond the end of the world.Β

Also, this isn't a choice all elves have. It's because of Elrond's unique lineage. He's descended from the greatest elven and human heroes from the Elder Days and was given a choice. And the choice extends to his children. Other elf/human unions end with death and the elf just living on mourning for eternity.

Anyhoo! That was my Ted Talk

  12. One thing that films confuse a lot of people is that elves are not immortal, their lifespan is the lifespan of the world, humans are the true immortals because when they die their souls go to Eru ( GOD ), even if the world perishes humans souls lives forever.

  13. I play the game Deep Rock Galactic which is about dwarves mining a hostile planet in the future in deep space and, sometimes, it'll just toss me a long way because of a glitch and when it does I say to myself: "No one tosses a dwarf…except the physics engine!"

  14. Andy Serkis pioneered mo-cap performances. Dude set the standard and it is very high. I always get happy when I see him in movies. I know Tolkein said he hated aligory but, he was a devout Catholic and a WW1 veteran. It's almost impossible for those two things to not bleed over into your work.
