FUN FACT: Sam answered his own question when he asked if “you’re a monster, is it still you inside?” Because when Ellie woke up in the morning and said “Hey”, Sam didn’t respond until she touch his shoulder. The level of detail in this show amazes me.

The bloater is not exactly the final stage. It's "one" of the final stages. Stage 1 are runners, Stage 2 are stalkers, Stage 3 are Clickers, Stage 4 are either Bloaters or Shambler, but there could also be more, we just don't know. And then there is another infected, but that one doesn't fall under the list of infected stages due to the fact that it is a one-of-a-kind infected caused by other means.
