Fungus does operate like that my dudes, cordiceps (pretty sure I spelled it wrong) is the virus in the game and show that makes the infected. And it infects insects just like that in real life. ZOMBIE ANTS!!!

Marlene was friends with Ellie's mom, who died when Ellie was just a baby. Marlene dropped Ellie off at the FEDRA orphanage because they could take care of her and keep her safe…something that Marlene couldn't do as a revolutionary fighter. She had no idea that Ellie would end up being special, and probably thought she'd never see her again.
You must play the to appreciate the series. It's one of most beautifully designed in it's graphics, storyline and it's ability to keep you engaged. It's #1 for me.
