  1. What Mitsubishi don’t realise is, some of the people buying Colts were probably people who aspired to buy Evo’s someday, if you don’t have a flagship (or motorsport success), it does affect the sales of other models to an extent.

  2. Like many car companies with dying heritage, downright missing like or outright hideous basic looking car designs, if they brought back the lancer evo, they would make an absolute killing. Subaru, honda, mitsubishi all just slowly killing themselves not paying attention to fans. Pretty much the only car that's fun AND looks good these days is the new GR Corolla. Sure lots of high end cool sports cars but standard MT rally cars are my heart and soul I know others out there feel the same.

  3. The Starion was an amazing hot hatch for its segment, and had incredibly advanced features… and then the Eclipse GSX came out and even though the features were a downgrade from the Starion the AWD made it launch like a catapult, and not long after 3000GT VR4 came out… and then they killed the 3000 GT and gutted the Eclipse there was nothing until the Lancer Evo X which in reality was a terrible car but no one ever bought that car for the features or interior quality, but solely for the drivetrain, and then now they have… the Eclipse Cross? WTF?

It's as if they design cars by committee now, and the committee members couldn't even be bothered to phone it in, but text each other instead and their current vehicle lineup is the result.

  4. Mitsu is already dead. It's been dead for a decade. Mitsu's management should have been fired a decade ago when they stopped producing hot hatches like the turbocharged Colt. It sold like hot cakes in Europe and everyone asked for more. It's almost like they pulled the plug around 2010.

They failed because they didn't give a single fuck about the midsized hatchback segment which is dominant in Europe. Instead they tried to sell the regular Lancer, which was big, expensive and underpowered.
Then they pulled it off the market and tried selling SUVs that nobody wanted because there were better choices. Even their pickups, which were once very popular, were abandoned.Nowadays they sell rebranded Renaults.

Subaru is not doing very well either but at least they're still making their own cars. It helped a lot the fact that they maintained their identity. Meaning affordable 4 wheel drive/ boxer powered cars. They managed to establish themselves in the market of some countries. They satisfy the needs of people who need 4 wheel drive and reliability but don't want expensive and unreliable German SUVs.

If instead of trying to sell the regular Lancer, they made a midsized hatchback with the turbocharged engines that they already used on the Colt, it would have been an instant success because that's what VW was doing at the time and dominated the market.

In short, the fact that they stopped producing the EVO didn't play much role. It was simply the result of their complete failure.

  5. I find it so incredibly baffling how after all this research you did for this video you still say how Mitsubishi has no soul because of their current line up.

Nobody bought all those fancy sports cars enthusiasts rave over. If they were profitable they would certainly still be around.

Rallying doesn't mean anytbing to consumers into days world when buying a car now.

Maybe not wasting so much time on expensive endeavors like rallying and building solid affordable cars and building up a brand for good quality cars would have made a difference for them.

Trying to make sports cars definitely isnt what Mitsubishi should have been doing. Even at their peak it wasnt translating into sales for the brands.

They were a dead brand walking many years before they axed all those sports cars. They arent dead "now"

  6. You forgot to mention mitsubishis failed attempt at a evo hatch, The Mirage Cyborg ZR, to the surprise at the time it was 1 tenth slower then a civic in a drag race and 1 tenth quicker then a 96 tuerno. Used MIVEC technology too. and before I get people saying "The Mirage isn't a lancer therefore it can't be a hatch evo!" the mirage the cyborg was built off of was around 1995-2003, WHICH WAS USING THE SAME PLATFORM TO THE LANCER AND SAME ENGINE AND QUITE LITERALLY THE SAME FRONT END, and if I'm not mistaken the cyborg used the same platform to the evo. Seriously tho the cyborg is one underatted piece of kit.

  7. Actually the evo dying is much better IMO, if they we’re still made to this day they would be over-regulated and under-performing. As well as overpriced. I own a jdm 04 evo 8 mr, and i can safely say it can hardly get much better than the ct9a chassis. All good things come to an end

  8. The saddest part is that Mitsubishi’s situation is so bad that even their own shareholders are asking for the return of the Lancer Evo. Imagine being in such an absolute shit hole in the market that the people who usually oppose sports cars in a lineup are the same people who are lobbying for one

  9. As someone who was born in 03 i was too young to witness all this cool stuff. And my passion for cars only started within the last 2 years. But i am so bummed i probably will never be able to own a lancer evo. The evo and Wrx are to cars i want more than anything, but seeing what is happening with the wrx doesn't give me much hope the new one is ugly. Just makes me wish i grew up earlier when all these cool cars were coming out. I now i have to worry about the wourld going all electric i pray that deosnt happen
