From a virtually unknown fighter to a global sensation, the Dassault-Breguet Super Étendard’s rise to fame was meteoric. It all unfolded on May 4, 1982, during the climactic moments of the Falklands War. The Argentine forces faced one of the world’s military superpowers, Great Britain, and its fleet of modern warships.
Yet, the Argentinians had an ace up their sleeve: the Super Étendard. Powered by the ferocious SNECMA Atar 8K-50 turbojet engine, the Super Étendard could reach blistering speeds of 733 miles per hour, dominating the skies with unmatched agility and endurance.
Its sleek, futuristic design, razor-sharp lines, and intimidating profile, combined with state-of-the-art Exocet missiles, made this French jet a force of nature capable of obliterating any naval threats with lethal accuracy—even those of the Royal Navy.
With centuries of naval warfare experience and advanced tactics, the British believed themselves untouchable, unreachable by the fighters of this South American nation. But on that day, two Argentine Super Étendards ascended into the skies over the Falklands, targeting the British carriers that had brought war to South America.
That day, two truths were revealed: the Super Étendards were a powerhouse of jet fighters that should never be underestimated, and the Royal Navy was not invincible.

The Royal Navy did not think itself invincible. If they had, they wouldn’t have flown CAP throughout the war.
You need to go and read Sharkey Ward’s autobiography of the war, and then take this video down to correct your historical mistakes.
😮😮😮😮😮😮😮❤
😅😮😮😮
The british DID NOT infiltrate argentinians bases, it was the Chileans who will alert the British everytime the argentinians would send a sortie.
Pretty obvious bias against the UK, and wrong information.
Why would they invest in a carrier jet when they have no carriers? Are there not better land based options at the time?
F-14, F-15 would shit on this jet,hell the F-4 would fuk-it up
The "RN believing themselves to be unreachable and untouchable" was a somewhat of exaggeration, and somewhat contradictory to the points made at 7:00 onwards. The RN expected to take casualties and they knew that AAW at the beach head did not utilize the capabilities of the Type 42. It was never going to be a cakewalk. I know, I was there. I had friends in Coventry and Sheffield.
Can't trust the French, as usual!!
Que difícil es encontrar un video objetivo sobre la guerra de Malvinas. Igual, se apilan los británicos a quejarse en los comentarios de que el video no los glorifica con la misma mierda de narrativa que repiten una y otra vez desde el 82.
733 mph doesn't sound like "blistering speed", but he fails to mention this is on the deck… and that's very fast indeed.
Grasping for content a bit there
The Royal Navy didn’t think themselves untouchable. They were very concerned about the Exocet threat.
The super Entenarde wasnt that great. Only its ability to use the Exocet made it remotely dangerous. And as for no one seeing it coming…. The moment the falklands conflict started France stopped the supply of arms (and Exocets) to Argentina, so Britain was FULLY aware of what Argentina had.
And as with ALL of your videos. STOP clickbaiting, fact check and stop talking about one plane and showing another (so many shots here of solo A4's).
13:10…you forget 1 missile left, but at least remembered the 3 british citizen killed by the AS-11 missile from an RAF chopper.
As the British had Exocet they knew what it could do. That's what they were worried about the plane really wasn't that good. If the Harrier saw it was dead. The French bless them had to be threatened not to sell Argentina anymore during the crisis. A whole spy operation was put in place to stop Argentina buying more missiles.
The Argentines even rigged the missile to be fired from the back of a truck and very nearly succeeded.
If you can get this this wrong what else is wrong with your channel? I usually enjoy your content but this is just so wrong its laughable.
"Brought war to South America?" err, don't you mean the South Atlantic and anyway, Argentina invaded South Georgia first, then the Falklands. The UK then responded.
Please be accurate with your historical references.
the war should never have happen, PM Thatcher was dead in the water at home ,the labor party was set to win the next belief that the ,she sent the fleet in the believe tat the Argentines would turn and run ,but ew know how the story went and she milked the win foe all it worth. And by he way I'm English
The sinking of the Sheffield was the event where i made my mind and enlisted in the Army
This is a clunky version of an A4 Sky hawk. The French? Next time they get invaded, let it happen.
1:30–2:04 Carter Administration propaganda.
Spoiler alert: We still won.
Ah, yes. Whether it is a shot of the wrong airplane or a picture of the wrong President Roosevelt, I have come to appreciate such mistakes as part of the charm of this channel. In fact, I have long suspected it was a deliberate attempt to attract views and comments. You're welcome, Dark Skies and Dark everything else.
❤
The FRENCH will sell their Mother for a Centime.
The script for this video reads like anti British propaganda and has so many facts wrong it is funny. Please do better
We will soon see this aircraft in the Ukraine Air Force in the future
it was more about falklands than etendard, this channel is garbage.
Peru supplied extra Exocets to Argentina. Secretly. Brazilian Navy EMB120 "Bandeirulha" supposedly protecting the brazilian coast provided sea surveillance and info about British ships to argentinian forces, until a Vulcan bomber landed on Rio de Janeiro Intl Galeao Airport, but luckly was intercepted by Brazilian F5's. After landing one of its anti radiation missiles was stolen by Brazilian authorithies. Another great story.
The superior effectiveness of guided anti-ship missiles in this conflict is basically what caused the development of the Phalanx (US) and Goalkeeper (NL) automated point defense systems, which are still in widespread use today.
correction…Argentina brought war to South America…
…..and the Argentines lost.
The British lacked good close in air defenses (CIWS for example) and most importantly no viable airborne early warning system like the US E2 AWACS. A NATO event would provide US carriers which would bring modern air defenses that the British lacked. Those deficiencies cost them dearly.
You mean to tell me they named it Smegma
What if Argentina claimed the isle of Mann. The brits would be like what the heck.I can kinda see the Argentines point here.
….and yet they lost.
All carriers are vulnerable to missiles of this type.
By the 80s there is no way Britain was a superpower…. In about 1900 yes…
Besides you not knowing what you’re talking about and you misrepresenting several things, your fake narrating
voice is so extremely annoying. And you don’t know what the hell you’re talking about most of the time. But most of all your narrating reading voice sounds so bleeping fake! So bleeping fake!!! Wow …you’re so bad at this!

Long ago I wrote that this group of channels needs an editor. If you're going to grind out videos at this rate it wouldn't hurt to check them over before publishing. But they're entertainment, not some official record. It is what it is. And I guess if you think the Jaguar was a good looking aircraft I guess you'll love the Etendard. I blame the French.
I love these short documentaries but I'm seeing over and over again if the White European can't take over Latin country or African/Asian for it's natural resources and minerals then we will go to war and destroy you. Then they begin huge propaganda campaigns. 😢
The British knew all to well about the etendard and its capability. They trained for it.
Boy you made a metric ton of mistakes in this video. Aside from misidentifying footage of a Sea Harrier as a Super Etandaire the timeline was a little bit off. The spearhead of the entire force were ACTUALLY a vanguard of UK bombers sent all the way from bases in England.
The only language ever spoken by the people who made and continue to make their lives on the Falklands is and always will be English. And sheepish. Because English sheep outnumber every other species of animal inside those shores.
I have a British friend that was in that war.
They were so close to losing it, it’s simply incredible.
Avionazo! Llevó la muerte a las tripas de los piratas…
Fact 1:
The star of the war: AIM9L sidewinder supplied by US to support ( as always) the pirates.
Fact 2: the exocet and AR naval aviation killed british naval industry: the could never sell a New vessel to anyone.
They took too much care of the super etendard, they had to participate in more conventional missions * (guiding a4 and dagger squadrons with their radar) as the exocets were running out. They were not used for air-to-air roles, nor with bombs, rockets not even for reconnaissance…a big waste.
