When Disney first announced it would be taking the famous Disneyland ride Pirates and adapting it into the major motion picture Pirates of the Caribbean, many fans had doubts the House of Mouse could pull it off. But when Pirates of the Caribbean Curse of the Black Pearl first debuted, it was instantly a classic. But as time went on, it seemed Disney was draining every ounce of prestige from the Pirates franchise. Eventually leading to a dramatic downfall of the Pirates of the Caribbean series.

Dead man’s chest and At worlds end. Need so much more respect than what people are giving it. At worlds end was endgame before endgame. Yes the movie was a mess but it actually still had a story and a direction to go with! There is something there for the main characters to gain. All of them had their own ideologies and goals. That’s what made the movie complex and different from the rest. ☠️

would definitely choose Elizabeth in both 2/3 Then herself in the first movie. Elizabeth was not useless but she definitely was not at her best. She just took the fall for Will and kept on screaming during the ghost scenes.
In the second movie Will taught her how weld a sword and it paid off well. She pulled a gun to the second villain Beckett’s face.
She’s a lot stronger and braver compared to herself in the original film who really did nothing besides the final act.
I love Will’s development further of accepting himself as half pirate and struggling with himself and his identity. And trying to make a decision on either saving his father or Elizabeth! While trying to keep himself alive in the process. His dialogue shit talking to Davy Jones during liars dice. Telling him knowing about the key is not part of the game but you can still walk away!!
I would choose this development OVER his identity in the first movie. Who just wants to Save the girl he likes since he was seven. 🤣

I will agree with you in that the second and third films didn't feel NECESSARY – 'Black Pearl' stood and still stands perfectly well on its own – but while the first two sequels may have lacked the first film's magic to a degree, they were decent films in their own right. 'World's End', I think, is the better of the two, tying a whole lot of different plot threads together very skillfully and providing a satisfying ending to the story. Even 'Stranger Tides' was not horrible; it had some good scenes – but it should have stopped there. Disney's problem these days is that they don't know when to stop; they won't stop milking a cash cow until it's dropped dead of dehydration.
The first three movies was fantastic, but after that it went downhill 😕
Sorry mate but when you invalidate the two sequels after Pirates 1 as "progressively worse" I automatically write you off as a retard. They were just as great if not better. I personally even think Davy Jones is a slightly better villain than Barbosa in the first! Fite me !
They messed up with the trident of Poseidon thing. Cant go further withouth the magic and curses bit.
The first 3 where fantastic the last 2 where fun I re watch all 5 movies every now and then in a two day binge the last 2 movies are way better than alot of the stuff that has come out in the past few years in my opinion even if they don't hold up to the first 3

Inevitable? How was it inevitable? The first three are downright perfect. (Yes, the other two are flawed but I still enjoy aspects of both like Ian McShane and Javier Bardem) but at least with this franchise, there’s a sense of actual continuity and clear love by the filmmakers…
but no one will be like Gore Verbinski. Without him AND Johnny Depp, there is no Pirates of the Caribbean.
I had a Pirates of the Caribbean marathon last month. Rewatched the first three and watched the last two for the first time. IMO the original trilogy was amazing, but the last two were… Forgettable and dumb fun respectively. Hope they go back to what made the first three movies great to begin with.

I rewatched stranger tides for the first time in years, thinking it would've aged well. But no, i hated it even more. Specially the over use of all the great soundtrack from past films during uninspired set pieces.

The downfall happened with pirates 4 and 5. Everybody loved Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Man's Chest when it came out.
If people truly didn't like the Pirates' sequels, they should've stop paying money to watch them. Criticism is rendered redundant if it's still a financial success.
Personally, I loved the first 4 films. It's of my favorite movie series of all time.

I agreed with some things in the vid but I disagree that the franchise got worse with the sequels, Pirates one, two and three compliment each other fairly well and the 2nd film expanded on the pirate universe a lot, even with just the kraken alone, suggesting there’s a lot more in those waters our characters should fear then just pirates or government or the ones who follow them. Pirates 4 and 5 were bad tho I agree 😅
I actually liked the 4th &5th film more than the 2nd & 3rd. But the 1st was still the best, Jack is more suited as a supporting character.
