The History of Lego's Coolest Piece

Doing something totally different today to coincide with whatever I was randomly obsessed with at the time of recording, we’re looking at a goofy lil Lego piece and everything it’s been through!

My very normal obsession with this piece mostly comes from Power Miners, but there’s a bunch of different variations of it that came from all different branches of Lego, so I’ll be looking at every single one and why they’re pretty sick.

  1. I first remember seeing these in "Auquanauts" set commercials and they were silver then, I never owned any but the piece was memorable. It was basically the McGuffin that the sides were fighting over, this might actually be a reference to Manganese nodues which are a deep sea resource that just begining to be mined today despite decades of speculation and hype which was created by the use of them in a cover story to recover a Russian Submarine. Most of my sets were from the M-tron magnet based line and the rival sets with a black/white/green glass theme.

  4. Now I'm kinda annoyed that we didn't get this piece recoloured in trans medium reddish violet for the Ninjago 2022 summer wave. With the bad guys using that colour heavily and having a crystal motif. Big missed opportunity.
