Is this canon?
I think It would be more likely for the contingency to be the crisis that targeted all galaxy, we know it is cyclical so it would make sense if they were the treat, also, the unbiden act like if this was the first time they enter the galaxy, while the contingency is just following an old rutine. Also, I think caretakers weren't an empire before the crisis, they call themselves the custodian proyect, a proyect, not an empire, likely to be made by the other fallen empires as a contender against the contingency, that's why it reacts when the contingency awakes guarding the galaxy or in the worst case scenario fighting against it. The rest of the data seems correct, the empires fought eachother then the crisis arrived the caretakers were built and later disabled. At least that's my opinion
where the kettlings not the pets of the alliens who lift on the plannets eventually ruinned? According to the acheolegy project on their world i think. Meaning that part of the story is not lore acurate?
Hah, warhammer 40k referance with the “we were busy being Monkes” while everyone was at war
But what about the caretakers and the contingency?
Been listening to this in the background while doing some work. Thank you, now I'm so pumped to eradicate that Xenophobic Isolationist FE
This was a very cool look into the Fallen Empires. I like to think that these Empires were each the pinnacle of civilization at their height, but the magnitude of their failures that lead to their subsequent collapse was such a burden that it send them each into a collective state of depression, hidden away on what's left of their once proud civilization. They sit and watch as other empires rise and fall around them for thousands of years, content with doing nothing because they know how it ends for them all. It adds a lot of weight to what it takes for a Fallen Empire to awaken from such a state.
It’s the “War in Heaven” a Warhammer 40k thing?
I always loved the idea of these old and developed species that don’t want to speak about anything and will demolish anyone who dares defy they’re ideologies
Love your videos! soothing, calming and at the same time entertaining. Its like m being told a bed time story!
I like one theory I saw somewhere about the Fallen Spiritualists' Holy Worlds, where it was stated that their Holy Worlds are actually graveyards of their saints and soldiers who died in an ancient holy war.
I like the fallen empires very much, i fell in love with ACOT mod, being able to surpass them is always a key moment of any run i do.
I still remember the first time i won a war against a fallen empire.
Thank you for the lore
Honestly wish there were more fallen empires. Militarist, Egalitarian, and Authoritarian could have their idleness explained with infighting, and pacifists could occasionally force wars to status quo, or go on brief grand crusades to "pacify" dangerous empires.
When it comes to the spiritualists beimg hard to understand as ypu said is simple. They're not materialists and people who are materialists don't understand things that are metaphysical.
To a materalist life has no value all they see is resources to be exploited. Which is why we see living hellholes in the soviet union, Nazi Germany and communist china etc. Whereas those who are not full materalists and see value in life and people will not create those hellholes and funnily enough become more advanced aka the U.S
This one was amazing, possibly your best video to date. I almost forgot I was watching a Stellaris video and was totally immersed in the story of the War In Heaven. I've put together a lot of the game's context clues on galactic history myself but you lay em out very well.
So you've turn on all crisis mode. First the Scourge now the Unbidden. I like it, but I'm a bit bummed out that the Unbidden will not appear in the present time since they've already appear in the prequel war in heaven period.
Edit:
But I'm still holding up hope that they'll appear again in the present time, and maybe we'll even have a second war in heaven.
You forgot to mention that the spiritualist are the only fallen empire where the population (primary species) actually works, unlike the Xenophiles, Xenophobes, and Materialst who have almost all of their population being hedonist.
I really wish you could interact with them more. As it is, I usually just ignore them completely until the beginning of the endgame, where I'll declare war on one of them and beat them up until they'll accept a Status Quo end to the war so I can study the wreckage of the ships I destroy and have Dark Matter tech for the Endgame Crisis. I never let them make me a subject though. Even if it's the benevolent ones who just want galactic peace. Being the protector of the galaxy is a job for me because I am the Custodian, thank you very much. As that one ascension perk says, they are simply decrepit old empires clinging to the ruins of their once-great civilizations. Their time has long since passed, and the Foundation will not be bullied by ancient fools with delusions of granduer who believe that being in charge once means they have a mandate to be in charge forever.
Also, this has nothing to do with Fallen Empires, but I wish the game didn't consider spiritualist and materialist as violently opposed to one another and impossible to have together. Let me make my techno cult. I want to be the Church of the Broken God.
The hive will join the discussion
Can the Lords of Terra even sleep without getting their good night story fix?
Quite a cool and interesting story, but not too informational. There is wrong information there. A big one is that the caretakers were built in a galactic wide effort to preserve life agasint a previous awakening of the machine end game crisis.
The lack of citations makes this feel more like head canon & fan fiction rather than an actual lore video
I think it's weird that there isn't an organic hive mind fallen empire.
My idea is a follows:
The sleeping giant
A hivemind fallen empire currently in some kind of hibernation. Not all of the mind's faculties are fully operational. But it will put up a rudimentary defense if assaulted.
On occasion it will demand "sustenance" from the lesser empires who will be forced to either send it a truckload of food or some citizen… Failure to comply might cause them to reflexively lash out. Communication with the giant is confusing. It will only send out slow and often non-sensical messages that are reminiscent of talking in ones sleep. Psionics that attempt telepathic communication go mad due to the horror of what they see. And other hiveminds seem to reflexively understand that attempting to communicate with the giant is risky.
The chance of the giant awakening depends on how "noisy" surrounding star systems are. "Noise" 4-8 hyperlanes from the borders of the giant has a chance to cause it to awaken within 10 years. Things that causes noise are (from loudest to softest): Sentry Arrays, Planet Cracking, Fleet Battles, bombardment, megastructure construction, invasions, existing megastructures, other space construction, inhabited planets (not primitives), start bases, fleet movement.
Should the giant awaken from it's hibernation (an event all hiveminds and psionics in the galaxy will feel) it will become the "Ravenous Behemoth". The Behemoth will announce its hunger to the galaxy. Nearby lesser empires will get only one choice, become subjects and produce food for the Behemoth, or become the food themselves. Machine empires are not safe as they will be told to start producing food or be scrapped for parts.
The subjects of the fallen empire must meet a stupidly high monthly food quota that they must send to the Behemoth. Failure to do so will have the Behemoth take some citizen as food instead…
The Behemoth, now fully lucid, will be capable of communicating clearly.
This was fantastic. Very enlightening and informative. Thanks
Great video, but wouldve loved a note on the reawakening of the caretakers in case of the contigency crisis, as that could give insight into why the caretakers were created.
I thought the civilization with the six moons destroyed themselves?
Thank you for doing a lore video on fallen empires I always wonder what their history is & I find them fascinating. Tho whenever I play as an evil empire I hate them with a passion for constantly humiliation me & forcing me to not genocide lesser alien.
The Holy Guardians worshipping the Head of Zar'qlan makes sense. Religions often place great spiritual importance on things related to a holy figure. For instance, Muhammad's banner and sword, or the Lance of Longinus that pierced Jesus' chest while crucified. The Head of Zar'qlan is the equivalent of sameone having the preserved body of Abraham himself.

Shalash is my favorite system to restore through the worm event and remake into a paradise system.
Perfect timing, this video came out while I was at war with the Xenophobe FE in my current game.
