I was there, was horrible.
0:48 Poor Mr. Grenfell… would've been rolling in his grave had he known what his name had unfortunately become synonymous with 😔
8:30 This is fine… 🐶
This reminds me of balloon- frame houses that were popular here in America over 100 years ago. They had a big gap between the exterior wall and the interior wall, meaning that the house was lined with wooden chimneys. We've known this architecture is dangerous. This is criminal neglect.
But now that you left the EU this will surely not happen again! Mr. Farage and the like will always place safety above profit, won't they? And British administrative law and regulations are just the best in the world, so how could such a screw-up ever happen again? Nooo way! Sleep soundly and safe, you proles in the council estates, the British middle class will ensure your right size …
I lived in Enfield North London next to four 22 storey Tower blocks which chronic concrete cancer and pharaoh ants to cover it up they clad them in polystyrene at the time I thought it was crazy grenfell proved it luckily they took them down before anything could happen
I remember talking about this disaster in uni class called enviromental disasters(in 2019) and how dificult was it for me (as someone in the UK just for a year to study) to understand that it is possible to have so low standards when it comes to bulidings that house SO MUCH people. Also how the phone line operators just dont understand that first thing people in danger should do is try to escape (as a someone who is voluntary firefighter this was shocking to me) and never rely on technical mesures that they have no idea if they work/have actually been instaled/have been properly maintained. I remember how the profesor actually spend small portion of the class of comparing regulations in the UK to those in Czechia( I was the only international stundent there) and ended it with "We may think that the UK is supperior but look at this small countriy, that have had their freedom for lesss than three decades but have regulations that work and save lives"…I hope the silence that folowed made at least some of them to think.
Why they didnt used mineral whool is mind bending. It cant be much more expensive.
As I understand it, UK Defamation Law allows that a Statement of FACT can be a cause of defamation, if it causes embarrassment or financial loss.
Thank-you for your videos your a light well lit! Love from the states. Oklahoma to be exact your video on the Takata air bag recall and Ashley Parham touched home.
People: HA – with modern technology we can just avoid any disaster! No need to prep or care about the increasingly more complicated world!
2017: Radio communications have broken down, we communicate via paper.
22:20 The captions say "(Show List)", which I assume was in the script, but no list showed up on screen.
Every single floor had a Fire Rated room located just off the stairs and elevators. It was the buildings "utility closet" and it also has access to fresh air all the way to the basement via the trash chute and being a utility closet it also has access to WATER! Since there was no fire in the basement fresh air was available during the entire fire event. WHY did the residents of this building not know about this simple little room and how it could have saved their lives? They went there all the time just to get rid of their trash. It makes no since! A simple little sign outside the door would have saved all those people!
I listened to every day of the inquiry and it was harrowing. And the government just fucking ignored it. All those houses and flats with this cladding still and they won't do anything about it. It's Grenfell waiting to happen all over again.
What saddens me is that we never really learn about fire safety. Immediately after Grenfell we temporarily learnt a few lessons but in twenty years we'll be putting flammable cladding on towers again.
I find it ironic that the fridge which started the fire was branded Hotpoint.
I used to work at a shop that sold those fridges, and I always joked that a fridge should be Coldpoint, not Hotpoint.
Grenfell has had international repercussions – buildings all over the world have had to have their cladding replaced. In a twist of irony, in my state we were dealing with a scandal where asbestos-containing (fireproof) panels had been installed at a brand new hospital, at the same time that we were removing flammable cladding from another brand new building only a few Kilometers away.
It shows the lack of regulation against greedy investors!
My mother, sister, and stepfather live (and still live) under Grenfell by the leisure center, not a day go past when I remember the fire and all the people screaming. Lost of friends both my little sister and I knew in school passed away that night. Never forget Grenfell 💚
The riches laugh at us. So sad.
i remember this story breaking when i was about 10. it was awful to hear
I think you over-simplified this one
Capitalists be like: "yeah, I make my car seats out of child skin 'cos it's 3 cents cheaper on a 1 000 000 production batch…"
Well, how much rent were the residents paying?
What I want to know is why UK builders don't get more work in NY, USA considering this building didn't fall straight down in a neat pile the way Building 7 did?
If field marshal Grenfells', only connection to this disaster, is his name, then why smear his name, by connecting the two🤔?? Makes people think negative, to start with.
Funny thing, though. You iterated @03:28, "How history has shown we aren't very good, at maintaining concrete, infrastructure". 'We', as in, the British?? Can't be THAT bad, can it?? @07:35, it's stated "What if there's, a fire"🔥??? "What if you don't need, to get out at all"?? Unburnable?? Unsinkable?? You Brits are very optimistic, huh😉??
What's really scary is that a month before Grenfell, there was another small tragedy here in Singapore that caused a cladding fire but it was from a industry building. Thankfully, only one person was killed but a life is still a lost..
Mass murder is not a disaster. It's a crime.
This shit is honnestly so sad. lives matter less than money these days 🙁
The contrast of the fire safety is unreal. I live in a 1970's build mid rise in America and the stairways are on the sides, are extremely spartan, there is on either side of the fire door and all the fire equipment is located there. I have also lived in an apartment that had a furnace explode in the hall next to my apartment and my apartment didn't even get smokey and was able to live in the building while they repaired the mostly superficial, but still pretty ugly fire damage. I find this fire safety unreal.
"… history has shown we are not very good at maintaining concrete infrastructure …" You got THAT correct!
Doesn't really matter that much, it was just full of illegal parasites and foreigners anyway, we have far bigger priorities than this like stopping the endless flood of invaders coming into the UK… Call me racist if you want you stoopid and brainwashed leftards but it doesn't change the truth…
This unlocked a repressed memory for me. In 8th grade, I was only a few blocks away in one of those houses turned flats. Our sleep schedules were screwed due to the time difference between the US and UK. We heard the sirens and the people, and then looked out the window to the right. It towered over us and was just covered in flames. Never felt so small and afraid. Can't imagine what it was like to be trapped in there. Nobody deserved that.
