Long prepared for, long planned for, war with Germany finally arrives. The Royal Navy’s shipbuilding program accelerates with super dreadnoughts and battlecruisers rushed into production, but it isn’t those new ships that engage first, it is one of the Dominion class pre dreadnoughts. How will the HMS New Zealand fare?

I think it’s legal for a child to own a capital ship (it’s illegal to own a thing for war, so no working replicas of say, the Richelieu class or Iowa (1945 Iowa, pre retrofits), but you could do what Japan did and store the powder charges in a shed, turn the whole replica into a hotel, and as soon as WW3 starts, take a week to put her in action)
mainly because the child cannot get into trouble, because it’s a child
It’s more the person who looks after the child who’s going to get in some trouble (would love to see the court case for that though)
Besides that, the hard part is getting people to let the child keep it

The Austro-Hungarians have wisely surrendered to us as we accept their offer. However, since they have nothing to offer, we casually agreed to have them hand over over $200 million worth of war reparations. Soon after, our scientists have given us two new hulls with one of them being another dreadnought hull and the other being a battlecruiser hull. Of course Munro, our First Lord of the Admiralty, has issued two new classes of ships for the shipbuilders: the Triumph-class dreadnought battleships and the Indefatigable-class battlecruisers. The British people, including myself, are very eager to see their performance, especially since we are at war with the Germans alongside the Americans, the French, and the Russians. However, the Russians attempted to convince us that we should finance their war effort if we ally with them. Feeling the money should be wisely invested elsewhere and that the offer was only beneficial to them, Admiral Munro rejected the offer. Speaking of battleships, the first engagement took place in the middle of the Mediterranean where our pre-dreadnought battleship, HMS New Zealand, along with a couple escorts, engaged their pre-dreadnought battleship, three cruisers, and two torpedo boats. Long story short, we emerged victorious as the enemy battleship had iron plating despite having 16" of armor. We also sank two light cruisers and both torpedo boats at the cost of one destroyer who performed very well in the battle. If all of Germany's battleships have iron plating like their pre-dreadnought, I can't imagine how long the war will last for them. However, I am sure the Germans are busy building and/or operating better battleships than the one we just sank.
Join us next time as we see what the Imperial German Navy will throw at us next.
For the royal george. Could’ve you put Q turret on a barbet to put secondary’s?
Bit of info i just found out my great grandad served on the HMS Orion a leander class light cruiser, during the second World War
5:36 I honestly like seeing the refits, it's kinda relaxing and shows the periods of the ships service
Brother Munro has obviously been put into the Admiralty as a lobbyist for Cammell-laird and Harland & Wolff. More ships pls, 1900s RN bigger than 2022 USN when?
You should name an episode called "knock knock is the british navy" with an really agressive thumnail
Someone Consulted Jane’s
The Times: 14 April 1909
As wars often do, this one started with a battle far from the home waters of either Germany or Great Britain. In the spring weather of the Central Mediterranean the idea of war might have been an idle thought between polishing the brass, but with the declaration of war last month the Malta squadron, led by the Dominion class pre-dreadnought HMS New Zealand went on high alert, and when reports surfaced that the Kaiserliche Marine has sent a large raiding force into the Central Mediterranean the squadron sortied to find them. Escorted by the semi-armoured cruisers HMS Tribune, lead of the class, and HMS Porpoise and by the A-class destroyer HMS Aberdeen and the B-class destroyer HMS Boreas, the HMS New Zealand sighted the enemy south west of Sicily.
The cruisers formed behind the HMS New Zealand and the destroyers scouted ahead to find the enemy’s lighter ships. These appeared in the form of two German destroyers on the starboard beam, and the HMS Boreas and the HMS Aberdeen doubled back to take them under fire. The two destroyers were able to sink the destroyer V-11, and the HMS New Zealand was able to sink the V-12. With that threat cleared the two destroyers turned back towards the two Berlin class protected cruisers, the Köln and Karlsruhe, and spotted the S-1 class torpedo boat S-11 attempting to close. The HMS Tribune sunk the S-11 with one hit.
The July 1905 refit of the Dominion class now began to tell, as the upgraded 12” guns of the HMS New Zealand, along with her 6” secondary, sank first the Köln and then the Karlsruhe. With the protected cruisers out of the way only the 10.2” armed pre-dreadnought Elsass and the armoured cruiser Kormoran appeared to remain. The HMS New Zealand and her cruisers were still attempting to close with the Elsass so the HMS Boreas and HMS Aberdeen raced forward to attempt to torpedo the enemy battleship. As they closed a second torpedo boat was spotted, hovering in the shadow of the Elsass. The Boreas and Aberdeen were determined to launch their torpedoes on the Elsass and then engage the torpedo boat. Their torpedo launches forced the Elsass to maneuver, but did not hit the ship. As she attempted to range on the torpedo boat the HMS Boreas took two solid hits, and had to break off from the battle. The HMS Aberdeen was less fortunate. One hit from the 10.2” guns of the Elsass set her on fire, and the crew had to abandon ship.
With the British destroyers sunk or withdrawn, the torpedo boat S-12 began to move toward the British battle line. But a 6” shot from the Tribunes found her and sank the boat. Now the battle line, led by the HMS Zealand, closed on the Elsass as the Kormoran attempted to attack from their flank. The Captain of the HMS New Zealand thought he was facing a pounding fight until a sub-lieutenant showed him the entry on the Wörth class battleships, and noted that they were armoured with simple iron plate. That knowledge in hand the Captain closed on the Elsass. Listing and flooding aft, the Elsass now didn’t have the speed left to pull away, and the Kormoran had abandoned the fight. Her fate was sealed when two of her engines were damaged, making fighting the encroaching flooding impossible. She sank as the water breached her forward compartments.
Initial reports stated that the Royal Navy suffered 174 casualties. However six members of the HMS Aberdeen’s crew were recovered, and seven injured sailors were returned to duty after treatment. The Kaiserliche Marine lost 1762 officers and ratings killed or lost at sea, with another 196 recovered from the water and taken prisoners of war.
War with Germany
The Times: 18 March 1909
After consultation with the Republic of France the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland has notified the German Empire that their latest note was unacceptable and no ‘recompense’ for ‘border incidents’ in the colonies would be forthcoming. The German Empire has declared war on the United Kingdom and the French Republic has declared war on the Empire of Germany.
With War Clouds Looming, What is the State of the Royal Navy?
The Times: 27 February 1908
The core of the Royal Navy is its four ship battle line of 12” armed battleships, the HMS Dreadnought and the follow-on class of the Bellerophon’s. To support these are seven Dominion class 12” armed pre-Dreadnought battleships which were refitted in 1905. These are likely to be assigned to foreign stations as newer ships are commissioned. In cruisers the Royal Navy has nine Tribune class semi-armoured cruisers, nine Interceptor class fast protected cruisers, and ten Argonaut class armoured cruisers. All of these have been refited in 1905. For destroyers the Royal navy has the nineteen remaining A-class and the twenty new B-class.
However the Royal Navy has been expanding the battle line with new 13.5”/45 armed battleships and a new class of battlecruisers. The first battleships are the four ship Orion class, with eight guns in four twin turrets. The first battlecruisers are the three ship Indefatigable class, with six guns in three twin turrets. A second two classes of capital ships have just been laid down. The battleships are the four ship class Royal George class, with ten guns in five twin turrets, one mounted between the towers. The Tiger class battlecruiser have the same main armament as the Indefatigable class but with greater speed.
Should war come these ships should give the Royal Navy dominance in the North Sea and the ability to bring the war to other oceans.
Peace with the Austro-Hungarian Republic
The Times: 10 April 1904
After twenty-nine months of war with first the Austro-Hungarian Empire, and then the Austro-Hungarian Republic, where the Royal Navy sank every ship they had, the Austrians have finally sent a sincere offer of peace. The Cabinet has accepted the $276,716,000 indemnity offered by Vienna.
Ships are being recalled or stationed as appropriate, with strong forces maintained in the Mediterranean.
Right so in my campaign its now 1944 and I've finally taken over the entirety of Africa and am currently trying to invade both northeastern england and eastern India, the world shall be MINE
That battleship hull is certainly some hot garbage, alright. It's almost as if it's designed to only have one gun turret in the front, and then go with a, what, AQXY gun layout?
Edit: Oh, you're doing it now anyway. That's what I get for commenting before the video ends 🤣
In any case, I'd like to propose one small detail for the next class of battleships. For roleplaying reasons, could you add radio to them? So that it seems like they're the flagships and then relay orders to everyone else in the battle, and so on. But also, it's because I wonder if it would cause the game to behave differently with all the aiming quirks and bugs and so on.
Naming that battlecruiser class, upon seeing Tiger and Jaguar I had two thoughts for the third… Lion, or Cougar XD Panther was probably the correct choice lol
I want to see you make a heavy cruiser "da-ca" boat, because da-ca boats are just fun
I said Miners not Minors
I usually give that Austrian predreadnaught 3 main gun turrets.
It's kind of noteworthy that the United Kingdom is the only country with Battle cruisers.
Iron plate armor in 1909 lmaooo that was funny
B-Class stands for Barf class with that roll. lol
Why is it that no one makes micro battle cruisers instead of heavy cruisers before they get a good CA hull. A battlecruiser, with minimum beam and minimum displacement with 9 inch guns could have a much better layout, then the first “modern” heavy cruiser. They might be more expensive, but they are better aren’t they?
Pretty excited to see you Rule the Waves w/ the Grand Fleet this series!
I do have an interesting bit I noticed in your B-Class DD design that changed recently in Patch updates that's absolutely worth a look…
When it comes to engine efficiency, more (i.e. Forced Boilers… Churning out >200%) actually gets less range now… I know, weird right? So if you're optimizing range, consider exploring a downgrade in Boiler types (& see how much of an improvement sometimes even Natural Boilers) can boost range (& of course, to small amount reducing Smoke Interference). Particularly in twin-funnel small, escort types…
Anywho, happy hunting on the high seas BrotherMunro!!!
A 5 gun DD in 1905? NICE. Admittedly they are only 3 inch guns, and those Barbets make the ship so top heavy its will probably tip over in rough seas. But hay, ya got 5 3inch guns on DD, that is alot.
For comparison even during WW2, DDs only had 5 single guns or 6 guns in 3 duel turrets.
At least the ONE nice thing about Coal, Coal Bunkers make your ship tougher.
You can flip the destroyer rear tower by hovering it on the front of the ship and holding control whilst placing it at the back. For some reason this works
I am from New Zealand lol fine ship she is to
Those Neptune/Orion BB hulls are truly horrific
You didn't do bad on Karlsruhe at all. No need to emphasize the e much.
24:28
I thought the Ersatz Yorcks had ABXY turret arrangement?
53:07
I'm a New Zealander, let's see our Kiwi boi kick some German stern
All those previous runs with Spain and China and others with limited dockyards and budgets. And now behemoth time LOL..
Will you please explain why you don't use armour to balance offset?
