THE GREAT DEVOURER – The Imperium's Greatest Threat: The TYRANIDS – Warhammer 40,000 Lore Overview

The Tyranids are a swarming species whose main purpose is to consume any and all organic stuff they come across, afterwards utilizing the genetic material of their prey to further their own evolution and adaptation. This makes them a formidable and challenging adversary, one that can adapt quickly to new situations. The Great Devourer is the apex predator of the galaxy, and everything from the smallest form of life to the most developed interstellar civilization is little more than a meal to it. There can be no negotiations with the Tyranids, they are here to consume it all.

  1. This video goes through a long overview of the Tyranids. It contains three previously released episodes (The Discovery Of The Tyranids, The Horrific Stages of a Tyranid Invasion & The Hive Mind) for those who have missed some of the episodes or who simply want to take all the lore in one sitting. Ideal for painting sessions, a commute and so on. Check out the video description for timings on the different Chapters and more information. Hope you enjoy the content my friends!

  2. Although the larger forms are impressive at the end of the day when you are talking pure killing potential, the most lethal of all Tyranid bioforms are their mycetic microorganisms. Planetwide clouds of parasitic spores responsible for weakening or killing the majority of the planets biosphere, making it easily consumable by the Hive. How do you fight when the air you breath is eating you alive?

  3. Tyranids: the unquantified conglomeration of vast ecosystems given a sentience , a terrible intelligence, and a singularly driven conscious volition that encompasses everything down to a genetic level.

Tyranids really under used as an antagonist. Imo they fulfill the “unknowable eldritch monsters” role much better than Chaos and make a better cosmic horror antagonist. Chaos these days boils down to whiny manchildren throwing a tantrum supported by four one dimensional satan larpers, while the Tyranids feel like a cold and alien menace that genuinely just doesn’t care about your petty human emotions.

  5. Rule number one for a catachan regiment. Never acknolwedge orders to fight outside of the a jungle or forest. Unless it is to defend Holy Terra. Or demand they verify their superior rank by showing that they have a longer knife than you.

  6. The Emperor (if the Molech event is not created by the Alpha Legion) once entered the Warp valiantly fought the Dark Gods with his faith and devotion, conquering within himself the last pure light that still shone in the dimension now consumed, becoming in fact the true and just God of humanity.
Is it too much from the outset to show him aware that having religious faith in him is vital to defending against Chaos?
    I really think not.

Tell me if you share the thought:

How does the Emperor, during the Council of Nikea, convince his sons of the importance of Librarians?
Using as examples Mikael Corveda and Lorgar Aurelian himself.
Plus, to help Leman Russ and Mortarion himself understand, alongside his Custodes he has his new Grey Knights (with their Chapter Master Janus)!

Since the Emperor is the God of Humanity, thanks to Lorgar Aurelian all of Colchis is freed and purified from the cult of Chaos (thanks to two colchisians crusader orders: Priests of Faith and Knights of Truth).

Lorgar Aurelian is the one who founds the Ecclesiarchy with its Holy Orders: Frateris Militaris, Inquisition, Sisters of Battle, Priests, Crusaders and finally (after the Perturabo Heresy) Maccabian Janissaries.
Lorgar Aurelian is like a Warrior Priest of Sigmar, equal to Rogal Dorn and Sanguinius!
(Illuminarum is not a maul but a mace)

Just as Leman Russ is the Emperor's Executioner, Dakuali is the Emperor's Hunter.

Initially Mikael Corveda and Lorgar Aurelian are the only ones who know of the danger of Chaos, but after saving Horus Lupercal from the infection he too joins them to face it, warning his other brothers (excluding those already planning the Heresy).

Ferrus Manus and Fulgrim face together Konrad Curze (armed with the Laer Blade), however it is the second who perishes, then avenged by the first.

The survival of Ferrus Manus is crucial above all for the protection of his sons, who are thus saved from their future obsession (the machine instead of their own flesh).
And Medusa is defended by the Clan he formed with all the others, the Ironhand Clan.

After the glorious conquest of the Ork Empire of Ullanor, the Emperor commands his sons Primarchs to join the forces of their own legions with those of the others, so that they may continue to fight together.
The decision is as follows: Rogal Dorn and Imperial Fists, Sanguinius and Blood Angels; Lion El'Jonson and Dark Angels, Leman Russ and Space Wolves, Corvus Corax and Raven Guard; Magnus and Thousand Sons, Jaghatai Khan and White Scars, Dakuali and Carcharodons; Lorgar Aurelian and Truth Bringers, Angron and World Eaters, Mikael Corveda and Blood Ravens; Vulkan and Salamanders, Fulgrim and Emperor's Children (Sons of Fulgrim), Ferrus Manus and Iron Hands; Horus Lupercal and Sons of Horus, Roboute Guilliman and Ultramarines; Perturabo and Iron Warriors, Mortarion and Death Guard; Konrad Curze and Night Lords, Alpharius-Omegon and Alpha Legion.

The Emperor uses the Traitors's Gene Seed to recreate the fallen Legions:
The new IV Legion are the Minotaurs (Primarch Thesephae, Homeworld Artherion), the new VIII Legion are the Black Dragons (Primarch Murad Agha, Homeworld Burso), the new XIV Legion are the Doom Eagles (Primarch Severin, Homeworld Gathis II), the new XV Legion are the Silver Skulls (Primarch Casmero, Homeworld Varsavia), the new XX Legion are the Mentors (Primarch Palas, Homeworld Raptora).

  7. Hundred percent the most dangerous tyranid bioform is the simple spore. Able to take multiple forms, able to do aanything the hive mind wishes, its ultimately the spore that chokes the breath of the defender, that changes the very air they breathe into poison and food for the tyranids, and the oceans into acids to consume the planet

  8. I think the theory of the Tyranids being designed as weapons makes more sense when you think of how powerful and smart the hive mind is but how it also seems so ignorant or just limited by something. Beyond plot armor or warp magic, there's no reason why the Tyranids would not have knowledge or access to fusion technology. Fusion tech would allow the bugs to create anything they needed from hydrogen. They could literally consume all matter in the universe and not just the extremely small percentage of organic matter in it. Think of how many navigators the bugs have eaten, and yet they can't create their own Tyranid navigators to give them a huge advantage the Imperium and others have over them. It's almost like a greater power didn't want them to be to OP…or just plot armor.

  9. I find the genestealers the most deadly because without the hivemind the Tyranids go a bit berserk and could easily die but the genestealers are independent.

Ironically we may have possibly gotten a independent genestealer faction if the Infinite and Divine’s song corrupted their song.

Or it’s possible that they would either devote themselves to the deceiver or as to keeping the vault hidden.

Both of these could be very interesting.
Imagine the deceiver at the head of a genestealer cult.

  10. Of all the many Tyranid bioforms, I think Genestealers are definitely the deadliest. While some of the larger forms can raze cities, or carve through armies, a single Genestealer can bring down a planet. Left unchecked a Genestealer infestation can undermine an entire sector. And once an infestation sets in, nothing short of Exterminatus can truly burn it out.

  12. Ok what is the exact defenion of biomass at what stage chemicals count as bio mass and why do they need the water what happened to it I mean they will trickle it in there own system what is the point of multiple planets oceans the amount of what would be more then the organis that make up the swarm

Also not Shure if the term apex predator is correct

Also they bioengineer themselves they don’t evolve
