The Gigantomachy – The War of the Giants vs Olympian Gods

The Gigantomachy – The War of the Giants vs Olympian Gods

The Gigantes are the giants of Greek Mythology. The Children of Gaia, the earth mother, in this tale they rebelled at her instigation against Zeus and his rule. Told from the perspective of both Gaia and Zeus this video includes the epic tale of the war between the Giants and the Olympian gods known as ‘ The Gigantomachy’

Living Mythology is an attempt to entertain, relax and educate all in the one place. We are trying to forge narratives so that people can experience the religions and mythologies of the world as they were meant to be. Not as dry academic monoliths, but as living breathing tales and parables as experienced by the peoples who worshipped these beings, in an attempt to make sense of their own lives and the world around them.

This channel is in its infancy, so we hope to improve and develop it as we gain more experience.

All of the tales are taken from very conflicting traditions across many centuries, so there will be many a moment when decisions need to be made to create a more cohesive narrative. If we present something that seems to be in contrast to details, rest assured we have researched many forms of the traditions and come to the conclusions we have done to form the videos.
There will NEVER be total agreement on any of these narratives due to the history and differing ways they developed over the centuries.
These videos are for entertainment and an easy gateway to the subject. If you wish more academic details then please direct your attention to the wide source material and others who perform those types of academic video essays.

  1. Despite knowing how the war ended, I seriously wanted Gaia to win. As she is listing all of Zeus's crimes and cruelty towards others, especially to humanity, I felt as she did. Her rage, despair, and pain were palpable. If that was my family, my children, my grandchildren, and my great-grandchildren, I would have burned the world to cinders to make them pay. Obscenely excessive? Absolutely. Definitely understandable and relatable? Without a doubt. Once again, Sir Baldermort and Lady Lightbringer, you have given these ancient myths new life. And I am here for it.

  2. Love how you addressed the absence of Heracles. Also super interested if you’ll cover the interaction between Tartarus and Gaia when they create Typhon. As this will be a single video I’m guessing this won’t be the version where Zeus is beaten in the 1st go around. Thanks again for such quality content.

  3. I think Zeus made a mistake when he punished humanity, he ignored the fact that we are just a part of nature as everything else is. He only saw the destructive potential in us, instead of guiding us towards a moral approach to the environment, he just saw us as a nasty afterthought. I like that Gea intervened on our behalf, even though, if she just talked to Zeus instead of going on a rampage, things may have turned differently. I am waiting for Typhon and hopefully for the Egyptian gods to make their appearence.

  4. I’m curious how the advent of other things, like Christianity overtaking the Olympians would play out? Or the transformation from the Greek to Roman pantheon

I remember a comic a while back that had something like that.
