I love the idea, loved the direct; I only really play Pokemon or if something really special comes along like Coromon but I watch all your videos as I love getting to see other mon games.
Direct was so cool; Maybe you could condense it to 30 mins and add additional kind of treehouse like content after with Developer feedback etc?
Imo something similar to the Nintendo Direct format would be ideal, polish will come in time. As this grows, devs will want to give you better trailers, & you'll be less likely to crunch.
Also, Monster Tamer content seems to have trends of there own. Things can be sorted into sections like new monster teasers, battle system showcases, etc.
What if there was a pokemon like game…u can create hybrids with, have genetic traits tiers with new ones coming out all the time, can see other players in a open world map with chat bubbles above their heads, a online battle arena, and etc…idk what else is really wanted in a pokemon like game. But what if? (Probably never gonna happen)
The direct was great, only watched 40 mins on live needed to get dinner but enjoyed the whole thing again rewatching it, I say updates to games might be better first than new games and than other stuff, I don't mind any order, maybe see which order u would prefer watching a direct. The monster tamer direct was great with more footage of games, than people talking about a game and then shows a small bit of the game like other directs I've seen.
So great how the direct is presented, the next one be great aswell
for me personally the direct actually fun.
like how you interduce the development in the game and get some interview them. My only nitpicky probably the transision from one trailer to another was little bit to fast and for me it's make hard to prosses the information properly. Maybe because it's an hour presentation and so many dev who partisipan, but thank god it's on youtube archive so it's not a big dell.
Not bad for first direct. Hope other indie dev who have uniqe game project can join next years.
I'm very happy for update 1.2.0 for coromon mobile update 😁 worth waiting for this moment Also great video
I enjoyed watching the direct live. It was well put together and a great start to future directs.
I don't have many criticisms. But i do agree if you feel the future directs are getting too long, trailers that were already revealed prior would be the best thing to cut from the direct.
I just want to say that you're doing a fantastic job for the Taming Game Genre, you should be proud of the stuff you do. You're pretty much one of the only Youtubers (or even… journalism in general?) that actually covers this niche genre of gaming that I love so much. I constantly look forward to your videos whenever they come out, especially the week of monster taming series. Your direct was also fantastic and really fun to watch in my opinion, sure it wasn't perfect, some areas were rough (Like the Monster Sanctuary segment where one of the devs was barely able to be heard.) or the trailers that we had already seen in the past, but for the first Direct I'd consider it a fantastic success for fans of the genre.
I eagerly await your next Direct and also especially more Cassette Beasts and Kindred Fates coverage. Those are probably the games I'm looking forward to the most.
Keep up the good work mate.
I really liked the direct. I think is a cool idea to only put exclusive things in, but on the other hand not everybody knows about every game out there, so I think is also important to put already public stuff to get people to know about more games
English is my third language, but I'm fairly certain it's "praise its garnered" instead of "praise its garnished". Love the video otherwise!
are you planning to do a commentary of the direct in a future video
Well I guess those canllations? not sure if I used the (cancel) word correctly there, are missing out now. I think it was kinda fast but the content was strong. Meh around 1 bis 1 1/2 should be fine.
Since english is not my main language and everything, I might miss some words you say possibly, but if this was about videos like Palworld that were already seen.
Well I was still kinda excited to see others reaction to it or seeing the beautifully monsters again.
I was hyped during the direct, but I noticed I still stand with my opinion of being kinda wary with some games and not finding anything to appealing currently, haven't bought much lately, Nexomon and Coromon while being okay had some kinda annoying points or like in Coromon I felt like I really don't wanted to replay the full game up to that point which tells me I was not to much into it.
Still the direct was strong for more than half of the time.
I'm really looking foward to much that has been delayed, even if it needs to convince me with price and aditional content they might show us. There could be a sudden gameplay change I guess.
Honestly, do you know what happened to Necromancers Gift?
I liked the direct. There were a lot of games on there I had either seen very little of or had not heard of at all that I’m now excited for. Personally I think an hour was a good run time.
I would like a similar run time once every 6 months, assuming there’s enough news to do so. Plus, if it’s every 6 months then you could pare down how many games are on it and possibly include Dev interviews.
This is one of those instances where quantity might actually also improve quality.
I really enjoyed this direct. Though it is funny that Monster Taming genre is going through literally the same thing as Platform Fighter genre. Just on top of my head:
-Game was dominated by one game and pretty much that one game made the genre(I.E. Smash and Pokemon) though Pokemon's case it wasn't the first of its kind
-Any game of the same genre gets called a clone by some people. Most people don't even know its a genre.
-Most genre's are mostly carried by the Indie devs, as triple or even double A games mostly stay out of it save for the biggest of the genre obviously.
Hey ed, why don't you send me that german article covering the direct? I can translate or read it for you, if you don't trust the ai translation 😉
The direct was really great, actually! The few things I could critique about it include the trailers from games we’ve already seen and the sudden transitions between each game. It took me a few seconds longer than it should have to register that a new game was being shown. For a more comfortable viewing experience, I suggest you add a small graphic or transition at the ending of every trailer.
You’re doing a great service for the Monster Taming genre and community. I’m looking forward to how these Directs alter common suppositions about the genre. Thank you and I wish the best!
Definitely enjoyed the direct, I agree with the transitions being quick but I really liked the rapid fire action. There's definitely a few new games now on my radar and even more hyped for some of the others. Cassette beasts in particular 🔥
There were some strong entries to lead the direct, but transitions and commentary would be useful in progressing and supporting the games showcased.
For example, Tales of Lumaria (I think) was one of the first games we saw. Not everyone will watch every single video/keep up with news of games they are not vested in entirely. Some commentary to go along the trailer telling us what the game is could help us better be invested. (Yes there was text in the video saying this, but you can sort of see the point I am getting at with trailers that expect you to know the game). This commentary also helps split up and transition from game to game by letting us know when one announcement ends and the other begins.
For the games most of the community may know about, like Ova Magica or Skyclimbers, which did not have a whole lot to show, they could have been handled differently. Like a segment saying: New content is coming to XYZ or new developments, etc. Could also have a lightning round where games that are either just announced/have minor updates ate show at the end or middle.
The direct was a lot of fun regardless. Every six months may be more of stretch, since there may not be enough content. But in that case, you could have a direct focused on a 2-3 games with substantial updates. Another fun thing would be to have a "Gym Session" of something like the Nintendo Treehouse where you sit with the developers of a game, and y'all play it live so the audience can learn more about it that way.
I look forward to the future of Momster Taming Directs and the growth of the genre and your channel Ed
ALL the games that were shown are beautiful
These are very fair points Ed I personally didn’t mind the direct being 1 hour long and it went by very quickly because of the amount of content that was there with very little talking
I thought it was good. Didn't mind the length as there was a lot to show. Only criticism I have is that I wished that each new game had their title presented right away as I didn't know every single one and I'd be waiting towards the end to hope that they'll reveal the game's name at the end. So starting each new trailer with the game's name would've been preferred. Or maybe list the games in the description.
Also regarding how often you should do the direct then that would depend on how many developers are ready to give you exclusive content since like you pointed out there isn’t really a point in showing something that is already public
Great job on the direct. The only thing I would like to see different in the next one is some little 1-2 second separator clip to bookend the trailers. Think like the switch controller clicking in clip from the Nintendo Direct. It just helps focus the attention and lets us know which thing goes with which trailer.
I really enjoyed the large deluge of new info for games all at once. It can sometimes get tiresome to get only small tidbits of info, especially because of how long it can be between learning of a new game and its release, and also because of how insubstantial the drip-feed can be.
At a few points the transition between one game and another game was a bit abrupt, but that's more on the developers to demarcate their trailers. Not sure if a transition of some kind can be added for trailers that don't quite have it themselves?
The inclusion of a fan game was a bit odd to me. Digimon is kind of a big name, and the game looked great, very professional, so I was a bit confused as to whether it was a 'real' game or not. Seems like something Bandai might come after, in which case you don't want the fan game linked to the direct which is trying to showcase and promote legal games. The indie developers probably want their games to be seen as professional endeavors, and not likened to unprofessional fan projects. It might cause some to pull support later if the directs are seen as not serious.
Anyways, the direct was fun, and I really hope to see it happen again.
If videos have a warning on the screen for it, it should stay up for more than a few seconds. Pry Into the Void trailer got to me but comments said there was a warning but it didn’t last long. Maybe put a time stamp on it to be able to skip it. And just plaster the names of the games and what consoles they’re on more because I only knew that for some of them from some of your previous videos. Could always put something at the bottom of the clip while it plays. It was very fun. Definitely will tune in for another one.
honestly i enjoyed the direct and would love to see more of them.
That was a very good idea and for a first time it was very well made. The part with the allready can be cut for the next time. Monster taming game award next time ?
can i get a link to that palworld trailer
The Direct was alright, I guess, but have you considered getting some sponsors that would overtake the whole event and completely ruin the message? The Gillette Hydrobot is always looking for more work
I thought it was pretty alright for a first go at it.
You already addressed my main issues with it in this video (Inconsistent sound and rehashed content), so I don't have much else to add.
are this games coming to the Nintendo switch and the west and if not make a physical copy of the game they most on eshop🤔 PS this moster direct who knows 🤔
The length was fine. The biggest issue is not doing the Direct too frequently. A lot of these indies will takes years to come out, so we don't need an hour long direct every couple of months. 1 a year might be fine.
I truly enjoyed the MTD – I came solely for Monster Sanctuary information – but I stayed for all the amazing content that will be coming in the future – I was actually amazed how fast the hour felt like 10-20 minutes – I don't do social media – so everything to me was a first time – I hope you continue to do this and I am sure you will refine it with your own thoughts and your subs feedback – thank you for an amazing MTD for all us tamers and monster catchers 😃🤎
I haven't had the chance to watch the direct yet, but I'm glad to hear it's been a success! Exciting!
I think the direct was great, the idea of just shooting trailers and speak only to categorize what you're showing is perfect for me, and I think that showing content that already exist is not a problem since the fact that not everyone who wants to see new games is always informed of everything that comes out. Overall I loved it
IMO An hour would drag if it was filled with talking. Hell during E3 5 minutes feels like an hour with the pretentious hollow bullshit spewed out by some companies.
Its a fine time for that kind of video & the description filled with all the info needed post show was perfection.
I have not yet gone through everything & made note of what I'm interested in. But I did follow a few Twitter pages during the show.
Honestly no complaints with the direct on my end.
I really enjoyed the direct, I ended up downloading the anode heart demo the same day and playing it through! I was kinda surprised there even was a demo cause i'm not sure that info was presented anywhere in the trailer? Title cards sound fantastic, please include if there's a playable demo of a game in there as well 🙂
Some parts of the direct felt a bit slow, but some were very exciting. Perhaps you could pace out the "big" reveals between some smaller stuff? Some trailers could've been way shorter imo, but i'm also a very picky gamer and love to cut all sorts of fluff. For your first iteration of a direct, it was absolutely fantastic and i'm super happy so many devs took part. To be honest, by the end, my head was spinning from learning about so many games, but i think title cards will give me enough time to memorize a game's name and type it down if it seemed interesting. Showing recently revealed stuff was really fine with me, as it was the first time seeing them for me haha. Maybe you could show a shorter version of those trailers if it bothers some people to rewatch.
I don't mind re-used stuff, because I can't be knowledged of every news show or reveal about games out there, if it wasn't something shown on your channel already, I probably didn't know of it's existence.
Oh yeah, one thing to note, sometimes it was hard to know when a new game was shown or if it was still from the same game, so if you could have either better video chapters or some small overlay on screen which game we're on that would be nice.
I liked it, there were a few games I’m definitely into, and a few I’m likely gonna avoid, but overall it was mostly really interesting!
I think including the 'already revealed' trailer stuff was great. Yeah, it's redundant to the regular viewers, but it's good for the irregulars to see all the 2022 Q4 stuff all in one place. I'm a subscriber but I don't follow everything, so I saw some new stuff too.
