At first NASA stresses we need to be realistic about willing to conquer Mars, then it starts unfolding shamelessly a much more unrealistic endeavour Of building a moon colony and a Mars orbiting station until 2070 to 2100, but taking into consideration NASA's pace, probably around 2700.
And what exactly prevented NASA having already built a small lunar outpost until now? And why does a rookie, who learnt enthusiastically and amid unexplainable hostility ,managed to do a better job at sending cargo to low earth orbit in 10 years and NASA supposedly couldn't do it in 50? Before playing it "the realistic dude" ,we should examine the facts until now.
Yes Musk pushes sometimes knowing subconsciously it is too much. But maybe we need our "Musks" to wake up from lethargy. Does anyone really believe, after so many delays, that NASA has true intentions about restarting manned space exploration? Only a Musk or a Soviet Union, or a China seem to be able to motivate them to do anything substantial. Question is what you do alone, not what you do to prove it you have it bigger.
