He’s cold! He’s crested! He’s… an early-diverging neotheropod who may or may not be an early representative of the clade Averostra?
Meet CRYOLOPHOSAURUS! This dinosaur hails from the Early Jurassic of Antarctica, from a layer of rock called the Hanson Formation that crops out on Mount Kirkpatrick. Cryolophosaurus is a very important early Jurassic discovery, because it fills a gap in the evolution of meat-eating theropods, and shows that they quickly went from small, lightly-built animals like Coelophysis to large predators like Cryolophosaurus. But what about its portrayal in this game? That’s where we come in.

No way! It's Chriscringlelophosaurus!
Good video guys, and Merry Christmas 🎄🎁

You can really tell that the crewmates need a break from the amount of times they break down this episode 😂
Happy Holidays Skeleton Crew!
So penguins are actually named after great auk! Pinguinus is the genus name for the auks, with penguin being the old French word for the Great Auk.
All antarctic penguins were thusly named for their similar appearance to them by European explorers!
Probably the least hinged video we’ve had for a while. Keep up the good work folks
googled recovery flora and the only things that pop up are skin products and such, congrats dalton you made it up
Fun fact, Penguins were named for their resemblence to the great auk (Pinguinus Impennis). They didn't have white heads either.
So we just pretending like Carnotaurus doesnt exists and was chosen by the wheel like 3 weeks ago?
so much chaos and I'm not even 10 minutes into the video.
Ah it's been a while since the last unhinged SC vid, glad to have a fresh dose right before Christmas XD Happy holidays to the Skeleton Crew!
Happy holidays
Technically no penguin alive today is a true penguin, the Antarctic birds are named after an extinct group of birds from the Arctic
Best intro. Hope you all have a great holiday if you celebrate
Can’t wait to see Alex when he emerges from his chrysalis, nature sure is beautiful!
"James was so good he died"
3:08 kinda sussy. Suskityrannus behavior.
This isn't dinosaur related, but I think it'd be the greatest thing ever if you guys played Uno. The chaos that would unfold would be immeasurable
this is the most unhinged video you guys have put up in a hot minute, is this just what happens when Dalton takes the reins of 'main character of the Skeleton Crew' for an episode?
in any case, Merry Cryolophosaurus, to one and all!
Well, that's certainly a cold-open. d:
Remember the cast of Star Wars’ Skeleton Crew?
This is them now, feel old yet?
I loved this elvis looking mother fucker. He's an interesting theropod from early in the Jurassic. Not quite as massive as say an Allosaurus but he's still a decently sized predator as a 'mid' sized therapod. He makes a fun choice for my parks, especially if I'm not feeling like putting in another Ceratosaurus.
Plus he does have that reputation of being the dinosaur found in Antarctica and a nice example of a cooler more temperate climate species (though not as much as say Nanuqasaurus or Yutyrannus).
Overall a fun species and one I hope to see in the films eventually. Possibly a nod to the fact it did live in climates not unlike modern day.
Honestly Alex saying "charming" after Scott's intro threw me off so hard I forgot he existed 😂❤
I honestly love Alex being a faceless voice of the void, its so perfect for him
Just 2 days after the BotM cryo got announced? Coincidence? I think not!
Change is inevitable, but Scott is eternal.
17:20 Funny enough, Penguins are not really Penguins. By that, I mean that Penguins were named after the Great Auks of the Arctic (Pinguinus impennus), a similar flightless bird that went extinct due to over hunting and drunk Scottish douchebags in 1840. The name Pinguinus is derived from Iberian languages which means "plump."
57:45 So I heard about this as a kid when I read this huge ass compilation of the Dinosaurs! Magazine from the 90's that I bought when the Discovery Channel Store was still a thing at the nearby mall. Anyway, there was a page that talked about the kangaroo tailed theropod hypothesis, but they used a Ceratosaurus defending itself against an Allosaurus. Anyway, the idea was proposed by Robert T. Bakker back in the 1970's with Greg Paul as an assistant in which he observed how large the foot claws of Ceratosaurus was compared to Allosaurus and the tail was thick and deep compared to other Theropods. The idea had been swept under the rug for the last few decades as there's not much anatomical support for this idea, though it keeps popping up in PaleoArt every now and then. There was an idea a couple years ago about Pachycephalosaurus apparently being capable, but I don't think that's been taken seriously.
Merry Christmas to you all!
$10,000 is worth every penny which is like idk I dont want to count.
I just wished that the game featured the main prey of Cryolophosaurus. That being Glacialisaurus.
Great vid! As someone who'd been to that Antarctic fossil traveling exhibit from the FMNH TWICE, they had both TWO unnamed sauropodomorphs AND Glacialisaurus hammeri on display.
45:18 – Scott said some "🪿🦅🪿🦅🪿"
19:44 i freakin love Pesto. we stan a Giant Baby
After nearly nine minutes of random chaos: "…We're the Skeleton Crew!"
Me: "Yes. Yes you are."
55:18 what about Dinosaur Trains depiction? That shows models tend to be pretty accurate other than feathering. I think they show 1 crest
“Hey Dalton, I think God should kill you” is one of the best cold openings ever
Happy Holidays Skeleton Crew! I’m kind of glad for y’all taking a holiday break just because it means we’re drawing out the inevitable ending of the JWE2 roster.
