  1. It was reported that Dr.s making the food pyramid would have left out all dairy, meat and eggs, but they thought no American would accept that recommendation. So they kept them in at reduced amount. Which is a dereliction of duty to inform the public.

  2. As a swedish person I can verify that the model presented is still in very full effect even to this day. You cant find an article of dietary supplements without a doctor commenting how useless they are because we get everything we need from the food we eat. Milk is also consumed on a large scale and because of government propaganda people ignore the fact that the milk is so contaminated that it must be pasteurized which kills the vitamins which then must be added back to the milk.

  3. Demonizing saturated fats was the single biggest mistake at least in terms of heart disease. Vegetable oils are like the worst things for you and we should be getting back to using butter, lard, and tallow. We would literally cut heart disease into half if everyone would just stop going for low fat whatever. We should all be eating full fat. Our HDL balance is totally out of whack because of the low fat initiative. Anyone ever wonder what gets cut out when you go to low fat? The fats that contain HDL. So we are stuck on food loaded with tons of LDL but no HDL.
We should be eating 2parts healthy fats and protein and 1 part vegetable. If you want to eat grains they should be WHOLE only. Fruits and sugars should only be eaten occasionally and not every day as it is show in the plate today. Dairy for the most part is neutral. You can have some if you can digest it and if you do it probably take part of the healthy fats and protein section of the plate.

  4. I am a middle aged white conservative guy (mentioning since many of my type love carnivore diet), and I thrive on a plant based diet with a little meat here and there and lots of rice/corn bread as a base. I hate how this country loves trends. I see people who've always eaten too much meat now going full on "keto." I did it and despite loads of exercise, my cholesterol spiked and my heart got plaque. So I needed to go vegeterian for a while to clear it out. There is an utterly bizarre narrative now that Americans are protein deficient. It's so stupid, it's maddening. "They're fat because they need more protein." No, they inhale multiple hamburgers, lack of protein is not the issue. Yes it's possible to eat too much meat. Also people think "carbs bad" because they eat low quality processed/chemical laden store brought carbs. Make your own bread using organic ingredients, and your body will thank you (and you don't add weight as quickly). Lastly, I do long distance hiking and my body froze up one and only one time, when I was on a long-term low carb diet. I got inexplicably cold, my legs felt heavy, I had to sit and rest but kept getting colder. Yes, I shed water weight, but I also looked and felt old and weak. One more thing: bowel health. It's always left out that a diet high in meat is not good for this, I have way less heartburn or constipation and bloating on a plant based diet. If you experience rapid bowel health improvement on carnivore, it's probably more about allergen elimination, not the meat

  5. 5'10" & about 150-160lbs
I ate tons of processed crap as a teen/20 something. But I've always eaten SLOWLY. You get full faster & eat less overall as a result. Also, you enjoy your food more that way.

Now in my 30s I'm a fitness instructor who struggles to gain weight because even with "fast eating" & switching to nutrient dense foods: it's hard to put on weight when you've trained your body to consume food responsibly.

Oh and I never got in the habit of eating when I'm bored, sure I used to be a smoker lol but "eating due to boredom?" That's a recipe for disaster no matter what you eat!

  6. I really can't stand the interpretation of lactose intolerance, as it's plain wrong to say we are all lactose intolerant by nature. The intolerance is an immune reaction to poor digestion, in the same category as celiac disease, and even fava bean intolerance to a large extent. Biologically our stomachs lose the high levels of coagulating enzymes needed to primarily consume milk as we age, but that does not mean we lose the ability to digest milk. Milk first forms curds or hopefully just one curd during digestion, and the release of enzymes from the stomach lining of young animals (this is what rennet for cheesemaking is) can be modulated to keep this curd dissolving at an acceptable rate. The curd is supposed to remain in the stomach for a considerable time, breaking down into components that are easily taken up by the intestines. As mammals mature, the stomach changes its lining to handle a primarily non-milk diet, which results in a major decrease of the enzymes needed to slowly dissolve milk curds. If a majorly milk diet is maintained, the lining maintains significant levels of these or similar enzymes, and the type of milk plays a huge party in how well it is digested. Not only do different animal milks naturally form different sized curds, but the type of preservation affects this greatly. If the curds formed are too small and pass directly into the intestines, bacterial fermentation will result instead of normal digestion. Different types of bacteria ferment in different ways, but many of the bacteria adapted to ferment fibers have a field day with the highly digestible milk and produce large amounts of gas. The resulting discomfort felt by the individual becomes linked with dairy by the parasympathetic nervous system, which stimulates an immune response upon ingestion. In the rare cases that a compound causes adverse interactions at a cellular level, rather than by bacterial activity in our intestines, the parasympathetic nervous system would behave the same and link that food with an immune response. That and only that is the mechanism behind food intolerance, so it's more fair to say that we're all intolerant to foods we're not used to and teach people about realty, rather than stamp our particular biases on the world. I love ice cream too Simon, and you should start with small amounts of goat yoghurt so that your occasional lapses of judgement hurt less.

  7. Do we really think americans are the way they are because of the way the food pyramid is layed out? People eat what is available and what tastes nice, not what the govenment recommends. Too many calories available in forms that are addictive.

  8. The food pyramid is fine, the problem is that compared to the rest of the world, people in the US eat bigger portion and move less. The first time I knew the portion of fast food in the US, I was in awe.

  9. I have never met anyone who uses the food pyramid to guide them what to eat and how much.. not once, and I'm 43 y old.
Blaming obesity on this seems quite short sighted, also no references whatsoever, so I guess we should just believe. I liked the history, but why should we trust anything you said?

  10. The food pyramid was effectively how schools beat into kids to stop eating nothing but sweets, soda and chips. Only insane people took it literally. But now with social media taking the place of parenting, insanity is the norm and videos like this are necessary.

  11. You do realize that only about 5% of people eat according to gov recommendations and a great majority of those who are obese and terribly sick do the opposite? You people are so easily manipulated.

  12. They literally will do anything to keep us unhealthy. Most of us are addicted to sugars and bad food. And it's an Addiction because are scared to admit because we're condition to make fun of people with it or pretend it's not real. The same people Who condition us to be hateful to those who are addicted to these things or the same people who are making us addicted to these things, so we keep making the money. It's hard to beeak these addictions and they make sure of it. I want to clean my diet but holy shit, it's hard. Not impossible but it is hard, especially living in America where bad habits are pushed on us heavily.

Everything made seems to be only trying to kill us or keep is so unhealthy we can't stand up for ourselves. It's scary.

  13. For two or three years now I've been hearing more about Keto and Carnivore diets, which runs completely contradictory to the food pyramid. While I don't know who is right, what I DID realize was that I can't trust the government to not sell me out to the highest bidding special interests.

  14. I eat mostly meat/dairy/eggs, fruit, veggies and honey. Occasionally have rice and dark chocolate. I’m lean and jacked year round. High test. Great blood work. I feel great. Strong in gym.

I supplement Creatine, sometimes protein shakes, Vitamin D3, fish oil, zinc, magnesium, and electrolytes

Not the perfect diet by any means, but I love it and it works well. I love all my meals and snacks. I don’t count calories only, protein. Drink plenty of water.

  15. Click-bait, and politics in this video. It suggested grains are bad, and something else should make up the bulk of the diet. What would that BE?
And HAHAHA, the idea that millions of Americans follow the Pyramid. I sort of follow it. But I eat much more fruit, same grains, and no meat. It's been 30 years. I'm thin and have no diseases, and take no meds.
