Name and shame the engineers who came up with the non redundant design. They should have their license revoke and never practice in any engineering discipline again, also serve time/fined.

  2. They get away they just get away with it ,
It's time that we demand for a anti-public endanger law

This law would force constuction companies to take there time even if past date it would banned other non companies from breaking there deal with that specific construction company hire to do the job ,
It would require by law for all projects (except on private land not open to the public) to be monitored by the government for each type
And failure to comply or go beyond
what the government demands would be a shutdown of your company forever

Yes this is harsh but they don't care they just don't and so to make them care we have to be harsh
The truth is aways harsh so?

  3. I was in University of Miami as an undergrad when this happened. I went to a Chinese Christian church at the vicinity of the FIU. Many churchgoers there were faculties, and students, of the FIU. They were devastated, and I was shocked to hear the news when this happened.

  4. As with most disasters several things had to go wrong; the design had no redundancy (if something fails, it is not crotical as other factors also provide strength), the factor of safety (how much it is 'over-engineered) was insufficient. The tolerances were exceeded during construction, the tell-tale signs of failure were ignored by not one by several engineers and contractors, and the project lacked oversight. Rectification of any one of these things could have averted disaster.
