  1. It takes a special kind of genius to use a rented van as a car bomb and then go try and collect the security deposit. "Sorry it was in a building that was bombed and this pine tree air freshener is all that's left. Do I still get the deposit back?"

  2. I didn’t see the first plan hit so when I saw the news about it; at first I assumed it was either old footage of the first bombing or someone bombed it again. It wasn’t until the second tower got hit that the full realization of what was happening hit me.

  3. Another factoid. They had planned to bring down both buildings by blowing up one and causing it to collapse into the other, however they were unable to park near where they needed to in order to bring down the first building. Experts have said that the bomb was powerful enough that if they had been able to park where they needed to, it could have definitely bought down both buildings

  4. Ngl I only found out about this after listening to Biggie Smalls’ song “Juicy” and hearing the line “blow up like the world trade.” I was born after September 11th, and had never heard of the 1993 bombing before then.

  5. A lot of people are asking if he really tried to get his deposit back. I copied this from his Wikipedia page:
On March 4, 1993, the FBI arrested Salameh. He had just collected $400 after reporting his rental van had been stolen and speaking with an undercover FBI agent posing as a Ryder "loss prevention analyst". Earlier, the FBI had traced the Ford Econoline van that had been used in the World Trade Center bombing by its vehicle identification number.[4]

  6. Actually it wasn't the FBI who found that chassis pieces, it was an NYPD policeman who saw how it was twisted and remembered something he'd learned in metal shop. He was in trouble for touching what he wasn't allowed to, but he was also commended because he blew the case wide open.
