  1. A much seen episode for me. Actual title is "Out of Sight", Aeromexico Flight 498. A small private plane rips the, IMO, vertical wing of the DC-9, no survivors of either plane. The Los Angeles suburb is Cerritos.

  2. Thankful for the people who developed TCAS, preventing similar tragedies. The 3 people in that Piper should all have been looking out the windows at all times. "Heads on a swivel, eyes all around" saves lives.

  3. Fort Lauderdale International Airport recently changed its approaches so that my neighborhood intermittently has approaching aircraft fly over at fairly low altitudes. It really angers me because i was careful to move into this neighborhood expressly because it was not on any flight paths. Beyond the noise, is the safety factor. Everyone quotes statistics on how safe it is to fly, and i am sure the people in that neighborhood never thought twice about the dangers of having aircraft fly over until it was devastated in this accident.

I've seen too many videos of accidents where the pilots managed to turn what should have been a routine takeoff or landing into an air disaster killing everyone on board and in some cases people on the ground.

  4. My friend lost her family like that due to an atrocious, disgusting crime against humanity, ordered by the Second Red Terror after Stalin.
With some people, it really is hard to refrain from wishing they'd never been born.

  5. The improvements made because of the deaths of enough people causes an action to be taken is referred to as.. "Tombstone Technology" and, sometimes, it's the only reason something is done about something that those who live close to these things (like putting in stoplights at a dangerous intersection) and quite often is the only reason something is done about it!! When YOU live close to something like that and have complained several times as well as your neighbors, because you have, more than once heard that unmistakable sound of squealing tires, breaking glass and crunching metal only to find a car in your front yard or even worse, a body!! After a few people are killed and you go to the media with the information that you and your neighbors have complained about this thing and have, basically been ignored up until there are enough dead people or someone famous or wealthy or a government official, like a senator or something is one of the people who end up dead at the very same place all of you have been complaining about all along!! That's just how it works, more often than not!

  6. Unfortunately and ultimately it was the fault of the Piper Cherokee pilot who had no clue how to get where he was going. The other private plane just added to the confusion as did the newby air traffic controller as did the very outdated systems at that time. And unfortunately it took a major disaster like this to force the upgrades and changes.
