The Ferals

The time has come to introduce our uninvited guests. We’re looking at the top 10 most destructive introduced animals (and plants) in Australia. But why are they so devastating? And how did they end up here? All this and more will be explored as we delve into the world of the ferals.

  1. Christmas Island off Western Australia has eradicated feral cats, and you are not allowed to own cats or dogs any longer. Once your existing pets died, you could not replace them. The island is a national park and very unique.

  2. Maybe I'm imagining, but that music at the blackberry section sounds very much like AoE music…

I love the content of this channel, but having that music takes that appreciation to the next levels. Absolutely love your work, keep it up!

  3. Australia has been screwed for decades by people letting their cats out. Don’t even get me started on bloody rabbits and foxes. Plants and animals across the country are under threat and the average person either has no idea or doesn’t give a shit. It’s actually depressing as fuck when you sit and think that in a couple generations a lot of the animals many of us have been lucky enough to see won’t even exist if it keeps going at the same rate.

  4. If Australia cared about native animals, they would make it legal to keep them as pets. There are lots of feral cats because cats are a common pet (yes they also continue to survive in the wild). If Aussies could keep wombats, possums, quolls, numbats as pets, you would have a lot more of those animals around.

It's stupid that Australians can have cats as pets but not Quolls. It's stupid that Americans can have sugar gliders as pets, but Australians can't. The ecological thinking is backwards.
