  1. I read the Fall of Reach Book by Eric Nylund before the game was released. I was horrified by the changes it made to the existing lore. The game did not represent the powerful orbital defences and told the story through Spartan IIIs instead of Spartan IIs. Anyone who has also read Ghost of Onyx will also know how the game butchered that book too. The Covenant would not be able to "infiltrate" the planet without detection and only landed AFTER a near suicidal charge at a Mac platform in space that allowed them to drop land forces. The game and book lore are not compatible.

As much as the game was good, and I like the characters in it, the book account was better. You can't change my mind. The game and Halo universe suffered for the conflicting story.

  2. F for the UNSC Savannah.
Don't know why, but it was a gut punch when the ship went down during Long Night of Solace.
I reloaded to try and kill the gunners faster, but it's scripted.
They give up their slipspace drive to act as a bomb and then act as an escort and distraction until they got blown to bits. Rip to the crew.

  3. The Fall of Reach novel indicates the Covenant found Reach via slipspace crystal attached to the Pillar of Autumn. Of course, both scenarios could have happened simultaneously.

  4. To save our mother Earth from any alien attack
From vicious giant insects who have once again come back
We'll unleash all our forces, we won't cut them any slack
    The EDF deploys!

Our soldiers are prepared for any alien threats
The navy launches ships, the air force send their jets
And nothing can withstand our fixed bayonets
    The EDF deploys!

Our forces have now dwindled and we pull back to regroup
The enemy has multiplied and formed a massive group
We better beat these bugs before we're all turned to soup
    The EDF deploys!

  5. Reach definitely was the end of Halo proper. What I think the post reach games were never really able to grasp was the general gravitas and tone. It isn’t a sci fi series that concerns itself heavily with lore. Yes the lore is there to be investigated, but, like you said, this is a sci fi war story, not a sci fi story.

  6. While it is stated nowher , the funniest bit I think about last stand is that the Covenent could have just left and glass noble 6 along the planet from orbit, but I'm sure the Elite were like " let's sword this dude" and backslapped any Kigyar proposing the idea of nuking him from orbit
